THE ROLE
 
The position is within the Materials Engineering Discipline having responsibility for Technical integrity on specific projects as assigned and for general issues within the group in the onshore and offshore oil and gas project environment.
 
Performs advisory and consulting work for the organization, as a recognized authority on materials, welding and NDT issues either directly or by co-ordination of other specialists both within and outside of the Company. Negotiates critical and controversial issues with engineers and officers of other organisations and companies.
 
The role of a materials engineer is highly valued within [Company] and involves extensive interface with the client, project management, suppliers, corporate management, and the global team of mechanical engineers employed throughout [Company]  worldwide offices.
 
Competency Criteria:
The minimum qualification requirements for this position are a degree in Materials Engineering or recognised equivalent and a full professional qualification as a Chartered Engineer preferably with full membership of the Institution of Materials, Minerals, and Mining or a recognised equivalent. Membership of TWI, ICorr and/or NACE would be an advantage.
 
The required competency and skills would typically have been built up working for a consultant engineering company, equipment manufacturer, or end user company. Personnel would be expected to have varied experience of process equipment applications in the onshore and offshore oil and gas project environment to include concept, front end engineering design, detailed design, commissioning, and operations.
 
It is anticipated that the person would have an understanding of the basics of process and piping design and of the main components of pressure vessels, pumps, compressors. Similarly an understanding of structural design and fabrication issues would be expected. Knowledge of Pipeline design together with the associated fabrication and NDT issues would be an advantage
 
Job success will depend on interpersonal skills and the effective interaction with others. Selected personnel will be highly competent in written and spoken communication and therefore be able to make effective presentations, and write technical reports including technical papers.
