The Central Data Privacy Team’s goal is to create and promote best practices for the management of personal information by supporting all [Company] businesses to comply with their legal and internal obligations and to assist them with their data privacy compliance strategies.
This post will manage a small team to deliver that objective to corporate standards within [Company].
The global data privacy team sit within the Legal function reflecting its importance to [Company] as a whole .
Key accountabilities
- Develop and manage a general strategy and proactively advance [Company] Data Privacy issues within the organisation.
- Develop and manage a global privacy compliance environment.
- Set and manage compliance with internal rules & standards including [Company] Binding Corporate Rules (BCR)
- Manage relationships with internal [Company] stakeholders
- Proactively promote awareness of privacy compliance issues throughout the Group
- Lead and develop the Regional Privacy Advisors (remotely) - apportion workload and offer support, guidance and mentoring.
- Build and manage a network of local country coordinators in the appropriate region. Provide guidance to these individuals.
- Assist individual business units where necessary in line with [Company] Privacy Policy, Code of Conduct and other related policies within [Company], local legislation and codes of practice.
- Conduct and manage Privacy Impact Assessments on new [Company] projects
- Manage external relationships with Regulators.
- Interpret & communicate regulatory changes effectively (including training, writing reference materials for internal publication)
- Contribute to other priority projects.
- Represent [Company] at external privacy events as appropriate.
- Attend conferences and training events as required.
Essential criteria & qualifications
- Significant demonstrated experience in global data protection/privacy environment
- Experience in cross-border data privacy issues
- Business experience in global IT/Legal environment
- Experience of interacting at senior levels, influencing and managing relationships
- Proven experience in managing a small but diverse team
- Ability to deliver clear, practical advice and make risk-based commercial decisions.
- The ability and motivation to work with others from inside and outside the [Company] business community using a cooperative, interactive, trustful, and respectful approach to achieve business goals.
- Able to appreciate the implication of complex written information
- Good understanding of organisation and regional cultural and legislative issues.
- Mentoring and management skills with respect to small but diverse teams
Desirable criteria & qualifications
- Tertiary qualification – preferably legal or IT ISEB (Data Protection) certification desirable.
- Previous recent experience working for a large global organisation on data privacy issues.
- It is not a requirement for the job holder to be a lawyer
