The Credit Risk Programme is a major Integrated Supply and Trading (IST) initiative that has already transformed the way IST identifies, collects, quantifies, evaluates and controls credit risk. The programme resides within the Information Technology and Services (IT&S) function and addresses the entire suite of IST commodities, trade types, and geographies.
 
The role holder will undertake data analysis and all other analysis within the Integration & Reporting work-stream of the Credit projects to the required quality and within the required timescales.
 
Key accountabilities
  • Advise Analyst Team Lead and Architect on required analysis activities and effort estimates to satisfy project scope
  • Facilitate and negotiate engagement with the Credit community, other business functions, and other areas of IT&S to secure business input across the various Regional Business Units
  • Although a Data Analyst role it is highly likely that the person filling this role will also undertake traditional end-to-end functional business analysis as well
  • Personally undertake all necessary data analyst activities:
    • Root cause analysis and, in some cases, root cause resolution, of our most intransigent cross-work-stream problems;
    • Complete the analysis of Business Analysts where in-depth data model knowledge is required to take the analysis to the absolute end point;
    • Mapping of data;
    • Data modelling;
    • Data base design;
    • Oracle database schema creation, including views and materialised views;
    • Writing SQL including reasonably advanced SQL;
    • Writing Oracle Stored Procedures (PL/SQL)
    • Interview subject matter experts in relation to source systems and produce the subsequent documentation;
    • Work directly with business people to determine, document and finalise their data requirements;
    • Clearly document and present upstream data quality issues that can only be fixed at source, including clear definition of the impact on Credit of the issue, quantitatively and qualitatively;
    • Write specifications, including functional business analysis specifications;
    • Help users write Business Objects reports;
    • Write some advanced Business Objects reports for users;
    • Peer review the XML Schema Definitions (XSDs) produced by the developer
  • Provide input into the process of constantly improving the usability of the Business Objects Universe
  • Longer term, put data governance strategies in place and drive the value of our data upwards, including putting in place the necessary systems to ensure data integrity from upstream systems to downstream systems, especially during periods of change
  • Ensure the quality of the analysis process throughout the projects' lifecycles; help establish and drive analysis best practices and standards, adhere to them, and ensure other data analysts adhere to them
  • Ensure your data analysis deliverables are produced and completed within the project boundaries of time and scope
  • Assist with business change activities including: UAT design, planning and execution; data provision; early life support following go-live
  • Work collaboratively with Business Analysts, Developers, Build Scripters and Testers, taking responsibility for seeing data analysis work through the complete project lifecycle. Where required working as part of functional teams
 
Essential criteria & qualifications
  • Experienced in creating data mapping documents
  • Very experienced in establishing the root cause of intransigent problems that first show their symptoms through a business report
  • Experienced in working back until the absolute root cause is established. Must be able to work back through several systems, including source systems
  • Must have experience of creating data models
  • Experienced in deciding when to have normalized and when to have de-normalized data
  • Must have experience of interviewing subject matter experts of source systems and creating pre-defined interview forms
  • Previous experience on large scale projects is essential – these projects would have included complex data sourcing and processing requirements
  • Must have experience of writing reasonably advanced SQL
  • Experienced in database design, including various forms e.g. star schema, third normal form
  • Must have experience of actually creating database schemas, including views and materialized views, within Oracle
  • Experienced in liaising with business people and obtaining clear final answers from such people
  • Experienced in defining upstream data quality issues that can only be fixed at source. Able to clearly present and articulate this to gain business buy-in
  • Experienced in writing both functional, data & technical specifications
  • Has worked within large projects that include complex data sourcing
  • Must have experience in formal analysis methods
  • Understanding of IT projects and project life cycles
  • Must have worked on IT projects involving significant systems integration
  • Business analysis skills & good understanding of interface into design/technical analysis
  • Strong self-starter
  • Demonstrates structured thinking and able to breakdown a problem
  • Good communicator – clear and concise verbal and written communication

Desirable criteria & qualifications
  • Knowledge/understanding of end-to-end business processes from Front through to Back Office
  • Knowledge of Credit Risk measurement in a Commodity trading business trading physical products, preferably Oil, Power and Gas products
  • Involvement in projects with a geographically diverse user base
  • Experience of data governance and maximizing the value of data as an asset
  • Experience of creating XSDs and DTDs
  • Experience writing Business Objects reports, specifically XIR2 Webi reports
  • Experienced in the use of Enterprise Architect
  • Experience writing Oracle Stored Procedures (PL/SQL)
