Role synopsis
To ensure the safe and efficient operation, maintenance and repair of the boilers, propulsion unit, cargo handling equipment and all machinery and electrical items, navigation aids, communications computers and Shipboard Management Systems on board BP Shipping vessels. To safely and efficiently operate, repair and maintain all the vessels electrical, control, communication and navigational equipment.
Key accountabilities
- To safely and efficiently operate, maintain and retrofit the ship's electrical and electronic and control systems and equipment.
- To assist in the preparation of spare gear and equipment requirements.
- To complete routine duties required in normal vessel operation and by Planned Maintenance Systems.
- To act as a member of the Shipboard Emergency Response and Fire Fighting Team.
- To maintain a satisfactory set of working drawings and service documents for all appropriate equipment.
- To carry out ISPS duties in accordance with the vessel Ship Security plan
- Attend daily or weekly Shipboard Management Meeting to discuss safety, operational and maintenance issues and to promote an informed and co-operative approach to achieving objectives.
- To become familiar and comply with the relevant contents of the Quality Management System Manual.

- Batteries and Chargers
- Electronic Navigational Aids
- Communications Equipment
- Electrical Equipment in Hazardous areas
- Power Generation and Distribution systems
- Correcting the List of Radio Signals, when
Essential criteria & qualifications
- Formal on Shore Electrical / Electronic Qualifications
- Fluent in spoken and written English
Desirable criteria & qualifications
- 2 years on tankers (Oil/Gas)
