Job Purpose:
Mechanical package engineer for design of process plant Lead functional input to small projects, or carry out engineering tasks as part of a large project team.
 
Accountabilities:
  • Specify and procure equipment to meet requirements.
  • Plan and prioritise own work to ensure that functional project requirements on scope, time and cost are met.
  • Carry out engineering calculations, and check work of more junior engineers, to deliver a quality functional input to projects.
  • Carry out commissioning activities at client site as required, to ensure successful engineering handover.
  • Ensure that work complies with all necessary corporate, departmental and legislative requirements and procedures, to guarantee that the necessary consistency and quality of delivery is maintained.
  • Recognise and address potential and actual cross-discipline issues and conflicts so that overall engineering input to a project is coherent
  • Develop own engineering experience and skills, moving towards the capability to move to a more senior role and towards professional qualification
 
Essential:
  • Graduate Engineer Experience of specification and procurement of complex multidiscipline equipment packages.
  • Experience of fluid handling (pumps, valves, tanks)
  • Experience of mechanical handling Understanding of E,C&I and Civil Engineering requirements
  • Plant integration skills
  • Experience in layout requirements for complex plant designs.
  • Experience in specifying plant with a combination of mechanical, electrical & C&I elements
  • Substantial relevant experience, typically at least 4 years of experience in relevant project design work, is required to fully perform the role; however less experienced individuals may be trained up within the role, under close supervision
  • Ability to work in a team environment
 
Other Matters:
  • Mobility and flexibility to work anywhere in home country essential
  • Potential for worldwide assignments
  • Experience in the nuclear and petrochem industries would be an advantage.
 
Range and Scope of Activities:
  • Works under general management, within defined procedures; less experienced individuals are supervised more closely until their capability grows to fit the role
  • Works with peers from other disciplines
  • Works with subcontractors to develop their design
 
Nature of Problems and Solving them:
  • Applies own skills and experience to resolve common and novel technical problems.
  • Seeks advice from more experienced or specialist resources as required.
 
Level of Discretion:
  • Plans and prioritises own work (once fulfilling the full role)
  • Refers any issues that threaten project delivery to manager
  • Checks work of more junior engineers and designers (once fulfilling the full role; initially the job holder’s own work with be closely checked and supervised)
  • Works within procedures at all times.
 
Impact:
  • Essential role in ensuring accurate and effective delivery of a project.
 
Communication and Contacts:
  • Has to communicate effectively with peers across disciplines, and more senior engineers, on tasks and other day to day issues, in verbal and written format.
  • There will be communication with subcontractors, partner companies and sometimes with Client.
  • Provides lead in functional engineering documentation, including client documentation, on projects.
  • Prepares functional engineering documentation, including client and supplier documentation, on projects If site based, may be lead client contact eg commissioning
