- An understanding of the northern cultural and political environment;
- An understanding of land claims and self-government agreements;
- Effective public relations and public speaking skills;
- Effective written and verbal communication skills;
- Financial management skills;
- Analytical and problem solving skills;
- Supervisory and human resources skills; and
- An understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures in the North.
Job Duties:
Reporting directly to the Chair of the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board (MVLWB), the Executive Director is responsible for providing advice to, and managing the operations of, the MVLWB in accordance with the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act (MVRMA) as well as all other applicable legislation, land claims agreements, interim agreements, and agreements-in-principle.
Responsibilities of the Executive Director include:
- Ensuring the MVLWB has the required information and advice to remain fully informed and up-to-date on all land and water use applications, projects, and initiatives;
- Providing advice and support for MVLWB meetings in order to ensure that the Board has the required information and advice to make informed decisions in accordance with the MVRMA;
- Managing the budgeting and reporting functions and responsibilities of the Board;
- Providing leadership and direction for MVLWB staff in order to ensure a productive, positive, and healthy work environment; and
- Coordinating public and community relations activities in order to ensure effective communications and an open consultation process.
