Essential Responsibilities
- Preparation and interpretation of “Request for Engineering Support” (RES) work instructions including labour and material estimates for Software products.
- Interpretation of international codes and standards, contractual information, customer specifications and system design specifications.
- Participate in R&D activities under the instruction and supervision of the Software Engineering Manager or Chief Engineer.
- Participate in Technical Investigations and Studies under the instruction and supervision of the Software Engineering Manager or Chief Engineer.
- Co-ordinate and conduct (or supervise) qualification testing of new products and/or fault diagnosis of returned products in the Engineering laboratories.
- Conceptual design of Products in accordance Requirement Specifications.
- Creation of Functional Design Specification for specific products.
- Responsible for management of engineering work within pre-determined budgetary targets of engineering hours and material cost.
- Supervision of a small software team.
- To ensure that the design of products are maintained in line with appropriate field proven and/or current technologies.

Qualifications/Requirements
- Degree / HND qualified (or equivalent) in Software Engineering.
- The post holder shall have a experience of working with codes of practice and national and international standards.
- Demonstrable experience in the Company or an associated field of industry.
- A member of the BCS or other professional body.
- Flexibility to work across many software products.
- Must be able to communicate effectively – verbal and written English.
- Must be capable of multi-tasking and working to agreed schedules and be ‘commercially aware’ in engineering solutions.
- Will have supervisory and leadership skills and experience
- Working experience in programming languages including C and C++.
- Working experience in embedded software.
- Working experience in communications protocols such as; TCP/IP, Modbus, Profibus and CANOpen.
- Working experience in software design tools.
- Working experience in software configuration management.
- Working experience in software life cycle processes.
- Preferred experience in electronics debugging facilities such as In-circuit emulators, protocol analysers and oscilloscopes.
