The Pipeline Engineer, working as part of the Global PSCM Team will support Global Operations with the continued implementation of this inspection contract, providing advice on the preparation of pipelines for inspection, selection of the right tools for inspection and providing assistance with interpretation and analysis of inspection data. The desired candidate should not only be familiar with the inspection process but also the subsequent analysis and interventions that may be required. Additionally, the Pipeline Engineer will provide technical support for pipeline preparation works from pig trap modifications to cleaning services, supporting the development of other initiatives in these areas.
The candidate must have a comprehensive understanding of Pipeline Integrity Management principles.
This work has global application and is across all parts of [Company] including Exploration & Production and Refining & Marketing.
This position will be based in [Location], reporting to the Global PSCM Inspections & Integrity Management Sector Manager. The work will require coordination of activities with technical specialists based in Sunbury.
Key accountabilities
The Pipeline Engineer - Global PSCM Technical Support position has the following key responsibilities:
• Supports the PSCM and Exploration & Production Technology (EPT) in the application of the Global In-Line Inspection Contract and provides technical expertise and guidance to Strategic Performance Units (SPUs) Operations.
• Ensures that [Company] standards and values are incorporated into the strategy and met by suppliers.
• Maintains awareness of ILI suppliers’ capabilities and new tool developments and advises SPU's on technical developments
• Maintains awareness of SPU schedules for inspection requirements, tracking and updating inspection plans. Coordinates with suppliers to ensure adequate capacity is available
• Conducts technical reviews with Global Operations for the development of pipeline inspection and provides assistance with training on requirements for ILI
• Monitors supplier performance and conducts periodic audits with suppliers on HSE, QA/QC and technical qualifications
• Champion the Global ILI Contract’s continuous improvement agenda and monitor supplier’s continuous improvement performance
• Act as a conduit for sharing best practices / learning’s across businesses
• Provides technical advice on the implementation and interpretation of the scope of work for the suppliers or business units for the implementation of the Global ILI Contract
• Provides specific advice on data analysis and interpretation of inspection results
• Assist with technical portion of strategy development and implementation of global contracts for tethered / crawler inspection tools and related supplier management requirements and processes.
• Provides technical assistance in the strategy development and implementation of global contracts for pipeline preparation.
• Provides technical expertise and advice for development of global Pipeline Assessment and Repair Strategy.
Essential criteria & qualifications
To be considered for the role of Pipeline Engineer - Global PSCM Technical Support, applicants must have the following essential criteria and qualifications:
• Must be legally authorized to work in the UK on a full-time basis for anyone other than your current employer
• A Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or commensurate industry experience
• Expert application of experience in pipeline operations and pipeline pigging and inspection activities with a good working knowledge of the different inspection techniques and tools
• Previous experience of ILI data analysis, pipeline integrity assessment and pipeline remediation
• Good working knowledge of pipeline regulations and industry standards relating to pipeline integrity and inspection
• Proactive approach to delivering high standards for health, safety and the environment
• Ability to coach others
• Ability to develop and work with global networks
• Excellent communication, networking and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work with people at various organizational levels
• Good contractual awareness and ability to identify issues that may have a commercial implication
• Must be able to travel at least 50% of the time to meet the requirements of this role
Desirable criteria & qualifications
In addition to the essential criteria and qualifications, the successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate:
• Broad experience with pipeline operations covering both upstream and downstream activities.
• Thorough understanding of applicable Group standards, technical practices, and integrity management requirements
• Experience in dealing with Suppliers
• Chartered or registered Professional Engineer
• Basic awareness of business and PSCM issues
• An understanding of the complexities of working in a global multinational corporation
• Experience in developing relationships with internal customers and partners
• Ability to demonstrate strong skills and previous past work experience related to change management
• Ability to solve problems and deliver innovative solutions
