Refinery Overview:
This position is located at our Los Angeles Refinery (LAR), which is composed of two linked facilities located roughly five miles apart in Carson and Wilmington, CA, about 15 miles southeast of the Los Angeles International Airport. Carson serves as the front-end of the refinery by processing crude oil, and Wilmington serves as the backend by upgrading the products. Operations are run 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
Responsibilities Include:
Participating in unit audits for key and critical operating variables that negatively impact corrosion; preparing material selection design templates (MSDT) for units and keep updated Corrosion Material maps for each unit; providing calculations for piping and equipment thickness requirements; estimating useful life of equipment in assisting in establishing schedule for repairs, replacement and/or inspection; reviewing and approving weld procedures, reviewing new and replacement equipment to assurance compliance with refinery specifications as well as industry standards and codes; providing assistance to inspectors in analysis and repair of corrosion, providing recommendations to prevent corrosion; recommending changes in operating conditions, materials or chemicals to control corrosion; communicating to inspectors, maintenance, process engineering and management technical solutions to solve or prevent corrosion in pressure equipment and piping; communicating with water and process chemical suppliers to insure successful application of their technology to minimize corrosion and unscheduled downtime in the refinery; assisting teams in root cause analysis as it relates to corrosion control; and providing training to plant personnel on corrosion control.
Basic/Required Qualifications
Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular, full-time basis with no restrictions
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering and a minimum of 5 years in job offered or 5 years of experience in petrochemical industry corrosion control or Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and a minimum of 7 years experience in job offered or minimum of 7 years of experience in petrochemical industry corrosion control
Conditions of employment may include:
