Role synopsis
Enterprise Systems (ES) is vested with the authority and accountability for:
• The development of Strategic Direction and Roadmaps for all Enterprise Systems;
• The definition of Architecture, Strategy and Standards within the Enterprise Systems Domain;
• An Enterprise Systems Project Execution Engine resourced by a talent pool deploying applications standards, tools and methods;
• The development and maintenance of Enterprise-wide shared components and associated services;
• The “silent running” of applications in accordance with established service levels with the business. Support components to include application service desk, base applications support, service delivery and business process analysis with key interfaces to the business, GOI and suppliers.
The Development Centre is composed of the technical services provided by the ES ISDC including Technical Environment, Security, Automated Testing, Technical Development, Tools and Licensing and Archiving. These services utilize common approaches to perform build, test, and cutover activities for both projects and production support The Technical Manager is responsible for the overall delivery and day-to-day management of the technical activities (technical environment, archiving, etc.) This role reports directly to the Head of Development Centre (ES ISDC).
Key accountabilities
• Accountable for the delivery of the technical environment build activities for projects ranging from $5-10M.
• Mobilization of Technical Environment SME- non-SAP resources in near and off-shore locations required to execute the technical environment build activities.
• Liases with the Technical Environment system integrator and Global Operations Infrastructure (GOI) to deliver the technical environments for a project
• Serves as the single point of contact for build activities on a project including planning, metrics tracking, and escalation of issues
• Management of resources in multiple locations to deliver the technical environments to quality and within the agreed timeline.
• Definition and maintenance of technical environment activities for tracking of progress, management of build through test and resolution of issues affecting other areas of the project.
• Interface with Strategy & Architecture (up to 4 Technical Architects) and the Development Centre (Technical Environments) to ensure quality of environment delivery and issue/conflict resolution.
• Works with ISDC Pipeline to provide estimates for the technical environment activities
• Works with Project Managers/Delivery Managers (up to 3) on project requirements, delivery timelines and issue resolution for the technical environment activities
• Influences and supports the Technical Environment Team to validate requirements in order to drive common technical environments delivery
• Responsible for setting appropriate staffing, cost recovery and talent development strategies for the Technical team
• Responsible for supporting the life cycle of the Solution build ensuring appropriate staffing levels - from Analyze through Deploy SDLC activities as well as change requests including associated deliverables
• Responsible for working with the ISDC Pipeline Lead to ensure appropriate Technical staffing
• Works with Vendor Management for staff augmentation and outsourcing performance measurement
• Management and oversight of complex multi-solution technical builds and troubleshooting
Essential criteria & qualifications
• Strong SAP/systems delivery and build process knowledge
• Ability to identify options to enhance SAP standard functionality e.g. User Exits when appropriate
• Management best practice for delivering systems installation, build and deployment
• Ability to manage geographically dispersed teams
• Ability to create excellent working relationships within ES – specifically Projects, Application Support and the non-SAP application owners
• An awareness of BP business and IT&S strategies
• Ability to demonstrate where peers/leadership were influenced to achieve strategic goals
Qualification & Certification:
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
• Knowledge of SAP Enterprise Resource Planning Systems for the Oil and Gas Industry
• Proven systems delivery and/or design knowledge in more than one technical delivery efforts
• Systems implementation experiences at least 5 full life cycle SAP projects with global footprint
• Proven experience managing budgets/programmes of ~$5-10M spend
