An outstanding candidate for the role of Commercial Manager will be extremely motivated to succeed and able to demonstrate high levels of initiative. You will have negotiation skills of the highest order and be able to provide commercial expertise to the management team through to executive level.
Attributes for success will include:
· BScQS, PrQS or similar tertiary commercial degree.
· Experience of reporting to Executive level as a PrQS.
· Minimum 15 years contract experience with major multi-disciplinary construction projects. Hydrocarbons experience preferable, specifically in cross country pipelines.
· Must have good understanding of principles of EPCM, partnering and target contracts.
· In depth expertise of the workings of the New Engineering Contract, preferably NEC3.
· Broad understanding of technical elements associated with major civil engineering and hydrocarbons contracts with the ability to interact effectively with project technical people.
· Good interpersonal skills with ability to work as part of multi-discipline team to fast track project timelines.
· MicroSoft suite of Programmes (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and high level of proficiency in the use of Excel spreadsheets.
· The ability to interpret project schedule and preferably time / distance (March) charts and the impact of risk / compensation events on the schedule. Understanding and using tools such as Earned Value Analysis preferable.
· A sound understanding of project risks, understanding with which party the risk vests and the potential impact on time and cost.
· Dispute resolution within an integrated project team environment
· Exceptional written and oral communicate skills, understand the scope of work requirements, be eager to learn, willing to perform a variety of tasks and be a team player.
To succeed in this role, you will hold tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Business Management, or other related discipline and a background in the management of projects from initial concept to implementation with particular focus on Contract administration – cycle of closing out of contractual issues as they arise.
Some of the key areas of this position will be:
· Project Controls, Cost Engineering / Cost Control – accuracy of cost flow forecasts measured over a three month rolling window.
· Scheduling – accuracy of earned value reporting based on accepted programme
· Project Reporting – timely completion and accuracy of project reports
· Risk Management – timely completion, innovation and quality of Risk Register and Intervention Register
The ideal candidate will be ethical and professional with exceptional relationship building skills as well as the ability to effectively influence others. Strong problem solving skills, attention to detail, and focus on delivering the outcome will be demonstrated through previous execution successes
