This position is targeting a fully developed Mechanical Engineer with world class valves expertise who can immediately have an impact with little support or guidance. This is a position in the Exploration & Production Technology (EPT) organization in the Projects & Engineering (P&E) function which is the centrally located engineering expertise for [Company] major projects and operations. In this technical role, the successful candidate will provide expert advice to business units on the major mechanical engineering issues, supporting [Company] Engineering Technical Practices (ETPs), defining discipline excellence, providing training and contributing to technology development and deployment.
The successful candidate will work along side [Company] discipline engineering experts and will be expected to provide stand alone engineering advice/decisions. He/she must be a motivated, self starter, great communicator, and able to work with engineers and field operations staff.
Key accountabilities
• Provide assistance in the development of fit-for-purpose engineering solutions for valves and actuators
• Provide root cause failure analysis, risk assessment and management of change guidance where valves and actuators are an issue
• Contribute to the development, maintenance and compliance with the Group and Segment Valve Engineering Technical Practices
• Represent [Company] on external organizations and committees
• Support technology development
• Provide direction, advice and expertise on valve selection, design and supply
• Provide coaching and development for new engineers
• In all activities, demonstrate strong health, safety, environmental and regulatory compliance record with an understanding and commitment to safety and the environment
Essential criteria & qualifications
To be considered for the role of Mechanical Engineer (Valves) as posted the applicant must have the following qualifications:
• Degree qualified (BSc) in a Mechanical Engineering discipline (MS or PhD preferred)
• Professional (US) or Chartered (UK) Mechanical Engineering status
• Expert level experience in a relevant industry, preferably Oil & Gas or Nuclear
• Excellent English, verbal and written skills
• Strong team player with the ability to stand alone in challenging situations
• Willingness to travel up to 25%
Desirable criteria & qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications the successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:
• Relevant experience in design, manufacture, testing or assessment of fitness for service of valves and actuators
• Knowledgeable of valve manufacturers and contracting strategy
• QA/QC experience
• Good working knowledge of the relevant valve design codes and standards.
