The Head of Electrical & Instrument (E&I) Engineering holds the technical E&I discipline authority within Facility Engineering and manage the E&I discipline group.
Main purpose and focus is:
Manage and develop competences in the E&I Engineering group
Technical responsibility for the E&I engineering discipline
Prioritize process safety and technical integrity of existing facilities and Brownfield projects
Support and advice other departments and EPIC site teams
Ensure that company standards and procedures are followed
Through these activities the Head of E&I Engineering contributes to the main objective of achieving safe engineering design and facility operating conditions.
Principal Accountabilities
General Duties:
- Comply with applicable safety instructions and other Company procedures, both onshore and offshore.
- Make sure that assessments of safety, economic impact and technical importance are performed whenever required. Due diligence shall be observed and initiative taken to secure the best result.
- Treat all information, both written and spoken, obtained in the course of the work with confidentiality.
- Carry out work in compliance with:
- Company values and policies
- Relevant laws and regulations
- Applicable contracts.
- Actively monitor work progress such that risks and problem areas are identified, reported and solutions identified.
- Timely completion of assigned projects and tasks.
- Bring forward suggestions for improvements in time and cost within the areas of responsibility.
- Undertake any other work and responsibilities as per separate instruction.
Specific Duties:
- Day to day management and development of the E&I Engineering group competences.
- Delegate, coordinate and follow up on assignments
- Motivate high engagement in the group
- Conduct performance appraisals and mid year reviews
- Focus on technical competency and process safety
- Innovate to further enhance facility performance and safety
- Use the right engineering tools
- Prepare the group for further [Company] expansion
- Set objectives for the E&I Engineering group and meet yearly targets (KPI).
- Approve within area of responsibility: Brownfield engineering concepts and design, As built documentation
- Make sure and accept accountability within area of responsibility: Engineering design is carried out in accordance with Company Standards, Process safety is observed and prioritized, Technical integrity of existing and new Brownfield facilities
- Develop or endorse within area of responsibility: Company technical standards (MITS), Functional Design Specifications, Procedures and guidelines
- Manage within area of responsibility: Project execution, Planning and communication with other groups or departments, e.g. shut down, interfaces to project contracts
Provide technical specialist support within area of responsibility:
- To the head of facility engineering
- To other groups or departments, e.g. EPIC site teams, Production Operation
- To approval of waiver requests
Participate in:
- Facility engineering project portfolio steering committee meetings
- Cross discipline groups as required
- Cross departmental / international information sharing as required
- Maintain high technical competence and identify areas of technical innovation
- Establish and manage relations to external vendors within area of responsibility.
Education and Experience
- University degree in electrical or instrument engineering.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant oil & gas industry experience.
- Minimum 3 years experience with technical team management.
- Detailed knowledge of offshore oil & gas E&I system design and the design of associated facilities.
- Thorough experience with design of - and modification to large offshore projects.
Skill set/Competences
- Confident leader and capable of working in a multicultural environment
- Good analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal and English communication skills – verbal and written
- Proven extensive experience within the E&I engineering discipline
