Purpose of the Job
- To support the Engineering and Maintenance Functional organisations, in the position of Corporate Discipline Focal Point (CDFP) for Pipelines. Technical authority (TA/2) on all pipelines engineering issues and standards deviation approval/control within the Company.
- Support the EMPDS scheme for young engineers
- Participate in Pipeline design reviews and HAZOPs
- Standard Review and update
Senior Integrity support Engineer:
- To help the project team and maintenance team to manage critical integrity projects such as Block valve stations (BVS), Main Oil lines (MOL), [Company] including MAF Tank farms
- Provide Integrity specialist support to integrity and maintenance team.
- Project engineering support
- The integrity upgrades projects are a very unusual and critical project with respect to oil production deferment and HSE risk management. The project involves both engineering and operational aspects with a high emphasis on hazard identification, risk management and emergency contingency measures.
- To support integrity and maintenance team on integrity/inspection & maintenance related issues.
Experience/ Qualifications Needed
- University Engineering degree.
- At least 18 years experience in the pipeline industry and predominantly in the oil and gas sector. At least 9 years experience in pipeline design and construction with at least 8 years in integrity management
- Proven Pipeline Construction Contract management skills.
- Proven pipeline integrity management skills
- Proven supervisory and team leadership skills.
- Knowledge of GRE and PE lining systems in addition to traditional metallic systems.
- Knowledge of pipeline maintenance and inspection.
- Knowledge of pipeline corrosion management
- Detailed knowledge of [Company] and International pipeline standards.
Principal Accountabilities
- Support to engineers on the Engineering Mentored Professional Development Scheme (EMPDS). Act as mentor for at least two EMPDS student and deputise for UEL in the attendance at Quarterly EMPDS presentations. Identification of suitable training and conference events to be attended by pipeline staff. Assessor for Technical Authority level 3 and 2 interviews in pipeline and flowline engineering. Conduct skills assessments for the Competence Based Progression Scheme.
- Identification and development of enabling technology for pipeline systems. Development and monitoring of the effectiveness of Pipeline Integrity Management Systems.
- Development and updating of relevant pipeline standards and software tools. Coordination of PDO comments on draft DEPs and other standards. Provision of ad-hoc support in the resolution of internal challenges to existing design standards.
- Dissemination of pipeline engineering expertise through regular discipline meetings, pipeline engineering website, Shell Global Network contributions, technical reviews and audits of pipeline related activities
- Availability of up to date pipeline activity related Contractor & Vendor registration lists. Functional focal point for pipeline related business improvement initiatives (e.g. as e-registration).
- Support to the corporate local emergency system for the Coastal Area as on of the Local Emergency Base Commanders, acting as a senior member of the LEBC team.
- Maintenance engineering focal point for pipelines. Setting of Maintenance Integrity Performance Indicators. Custodian of SAP maintenance task lists.
- Provision of all pipeline technical authority advice and deviation approval/control within the Company. Custodian of the Pipeline CFDH variance register.
- Take part in other Company audits as and when required
- Support for Pipeline Risk Based Inspection (RBI) and Risk Based Assessment (RBA) Process.
- Development and monitoring of the effectiveness of Pipeline Integrity Management Systems
- Secretary to Pipeline Integrity Working Group Focal point for all initiatives aimed at the introduction of new technology for pipeline systems. This involves identification and promotion of appropriate technology, development of a business case and acceptance of funding via the PDO central technology budget holder. At least two initiatives per annum should be pursued.
- Liaise with the CFDH for materials and corrosion regarding new technology developments related to pipelines and corrosion matters
- Participate in pipeline HAZOP and design reviews
Senior integrity support engineer is responsible for:
- To manage potentially hazardous integrity activities in coastal and remote locations with little existing support from Interior or Coastal bases. Effective management of the main construction contractor and effective liaison with other operational teams are crucial to the success of the project. This involves a considerable amount of work on a live pipeline system transporting all of Oman’s 850,000bbl/d production. Disruption to ongoing operations and oil deferment must be minimised by effective communications and the successful use of hot-taping/stopping and by-pass techniques as and when required
- To manage the coastal Terminal integrity upgrades activities Brown field, main oil crude export pump integrity upgrade projects. This may involves design, procurement and construction contracting process to [Company] standards.

- The senior integrity support engineer (UIP/5) gives the incumbent the opportunity to further develop his skills in risk management of high risks integrity projects and a broad range of asset management and operational interfacing skills.
- The CFDE position (UEL/1) offers the incumbent the opportunity to further develop a broad range of skills in pipeline engineering and maintenance as well as pipeline integrity management. The CFDE will also become actively involved in technology development for non-metallic pipelines. Good opportunities exist to develop technical and general auditing skills.
