[Company] Alaska, through purchase of ARCO's Alaska assets, has more than 50 years of business history in Alaska. As Alaska's largest oil and gas producer, the company produced an average 261,000 barrels of oil equivalent and 97 million cubic feet of gas per day in 2008. [Company] , with about 1,000 Alaska employees, has major ownership in and operates the Kuparuk River Unit, the Colville River Unit (Alpine), the Greater Mooses Tooth Unit (in the National Petroleum Reserve Alaska), the North Cook Inlet Unit and the Beluga River Unit fields, as well as the Kenai LNG Plant. Additionally, [Company] has major ownership in the BP-operated Prudhoe Bay Unit, owns 28 percent of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) and operates three major north slope oil transportation pipelines.
Job Description:
[Company] seeks to hire a Senior Pipelines Engineer reporting to the Pipelines Engineering and Operations Manager in Anchorage, Alaska. The successful candidate will have an engineering degree with 10+ years of experience, with at least 5 years direct pipeline engineering and/or operations experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for and/or be involved in all aspects of activities related to [Company] ownership in TAPS as well as three major operated north slope oil transportation pipelines.
The Senior Pipeline Engineer's responsibilities may include:
- Trans Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) technical oversight for both the pipeline itself and the Valdez Marine Terminal (VMT) which together transport over 700,000 BPOD of crude oil to market.
- Providing oversight of Alyeska Pipeline Service Company (APSC) operation and maintenance of the entire TAPS system which includes capital project oversight. TAPS annual budgets exceed $500 MM.
- Evaluating projects, initiatives and long range plans. Collaborating with TAPS owners to obtain agreement on these issues and provide direction to APSC.
- Day to day organization and coordination associated with [Company] chairing the TAPS Owners committee, as well as representing [Company] , as required, at TAPS Owners meetings.
- Team Leader on behalf of the TAPS owners various multi discipline and multi company technical and commercial studies related to the long term operation of TAPS.
- Pipeline Engineer for the Kuparuk and Alpine crude oil sales pipelines which transport over 300,000 BOPD of production, as well as for the Oliktok Natural Gas Liquids pipeline.
- Working together with the Pipeline Operations Group and Pipelines Regulatory Coordinator to ensure integrity of the pipeline systems and compliance with US Department of Transport (DOT) and State of Alaska regulations.
- Acting as the company representative with regulatory agencies as required.
- Pipeline owner company representative and project engineer for pipeline inspection projects totaling over $75 MM.
- Preparing [Company] annual budgets, long range plans, and periodic budget updates for all areas of responsibility.
- Providing support for, or may lead, commercial evaluations and negotiations related to areas of responsibility.
- Structuring and/or guiding economic analysis of projects as required within area of responsibility.
- Interfacing with commercial trading and Marine groups as needed to carry out responsibilities.
Required Qualifications, Experience and Education:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering - mechanical, industrial or civil preferred.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular full-time basis without restrictions.
- Minimum 8 years engineering experience with 5 years or more pipeline engineering experience.
- Minimum 1 year experience with all aspects of common carrier pipeline operations, maintenance, regulatory issues.
- One year or more DOT pipeline regulations experience.
- Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Project software proficiency required.
Preferred Qualifications, Experience and Education:
- Registered professional engineer.
- Ability to lead and motivate multi-company teams and influence peers in other companies.
- Ability to work with commercial, legal and all levels of management.
- Ability to quickly form influential relationships with peers at other TAPS owner companies.
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Strong problem solving skills with the ability to develop creative solutions to problems and influence others at all levels within, and external to, [Company] to accept and support these solutions.
- 10+ years of directly applicable pipeline experience. Pipeline operations and project management experience also preferred.
- Prior experience interfacing with pipeline regulatory authorities, including knowledge of Alaska state pipeline regulations.
- Experience with pipeline owners and connectors.
- Prior team lead and/or supervisory experience.
- Prior economic modeling experience.
