Job Description:
[Company]  Chemical Company has an immediate post-doctoral opening for a Synthetic Polymer Chemist/Material Scientist at its Global Research & Development Center located in Baytown, Texas.
[Company]  Chemical’s Global Research & Development Division is part of a complex with over 200 scientists and engineers involved in all aspects of our chemical business from product or process conception to commercialization. The Baytown complex features excellent support and analytical facilities, an international staff, and is fully integrated with all aspects of Company operations. The site is located about 15 miles east of Houston, near Galveston Bay. [Company]  Chemical offers an excellent working environment and a competitive compensation and benefits package.
 
Primary Job Functions:
Responsible for conducting original research in new polyolefin synthesis, functionalization, characterization, and evaluation of polymer and composite blends comprising these new polyolefin-based structures. The successful candidate will use both synthetic organic and polymer chemistry to help launch a new research activity with diverse applications from dispersants and adhesives to lightweight structural automotive components.
 
Job Requirements:
  • A Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Materials Science with expertise in polymer synthesis
  • Demonstrated individual contribution to research in a results-oriented team environment
  • A strong record of publications and presentations
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience using air and moisture sensitive materials
 
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Post-polymerization functionalization and inorganic surface functionalization or coupling methodologies
Strong knowledge in structural characterization of molecular and polymer materials by chemical, optical, spectroscopic, thermo-mechanical, rheological, and mechanical techniques
