Job description
- Technical Authority responsible for the integrity, development and leadership of the Metallurgy Engineering/Design Discipline and advice on the effective co-ordination of all discipline resources
- To carry out professional engineering activities in a highly competent and efficient manner and ensure that the technical and safety integrity of the engineering is maintained while completing the tasks within allocated time
- Possess a working familiarity with relevant codes and standards that affect welding engineering, metallurgy and materials selection for design purposes from concept through FEED/detailed design to fabrication/construction
- Provide materials selection expertise/reports based upon knowledge of metallurgy, engineering materials and operating environment for the design of oil and gas plant, pipelines and subsea equipment (understanding of gas/fluid stream chemistry and related corrosivity from wellhead to export facilities)
- Establish welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre and post heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of critical joints. Provide expertise in welding engineering and the management of welding qualification processes to include WPQR, WPS generation and NDT criteria
- Writing, checking and issuing of design documents for purchase of linepipe, valves, coatings and other production equipment
- Perform corrosion rate calculations (ECE, NORSOK, CASSANDRA etc), failure investigations and fitness for purpose studies to ensure continuing integrity asset management of structures and pressure containing equipment
- Witness on-site procurement, fabrication, testing to assure quality and integrity of items under procurement
- This role will normally be part time corporate role in conjunction with billable project work, likely as Lead Engineer
- Accountable for the technical quality and integrity of the work carried out by the discipline group
- Pro-actively identify methods for increasing efficiency
- Provide guidance in technical matters and ensure that the disciplines are aware of and are working to current engineering standards and procedures
- Provide guidance to the Discipline Engineers, Designers, Graduates and Trainees
- Provide assistance in identifying the relevant Discipline Engineering/Design resources
- Assist Project Resources Manager in optimising the deployment of engineering skills/resources across projects
- Promote a learning and development culture within the Engineering function. Ensure that appropriate guidance on training is provided to Engineers in support of individual development plans
- Ensure lessons learned are captured and shared for future
- Provide professional contribution and advice to other client companies. Network and share knowledge as appropriate
- Keep abreast of industry and legislative developments
- Provide guidance to the Structured Development Programme with the aim of gaining correct experience to attain I Eng or C Eng status
Qualifications / Knowledge / Experience
- Educated to degree level in engineering discipline preferred
- Associate or Member of Professional Engineering Institute preferred
- Ability to estimate, plan & execute work effectively
- Conversant with relevant industry codes standards and legal requirements
- Abreast of latest relevant technical developments within the oil & gas industry generally
- Communicate effectively within the organisation and with clients
- Effective management and development of discipline resources
- Demonstrable Metallurgy experience
- Demonstrable experience in design and operation of offshore cathodic protection systems
