Overview:
 
We have an excellent opportunity within our E H & S Business Unit (BU) for an Environmental Advisor to provide the Canadian Foothills Division with expertise related to waste management, reclamation and remediation and facility support.
 
This role will work closely with CFD BU's and stakeholders to ensure these issues are understood.  The successful candidate will also be required to represent the company in government, industry and public forums. Travel in Western Canada is required.
 
Responsibilities:
  • understand emerging environmental issues, succinctly communicate the impact of those issues related to drilling waste and general waste management, reclamation and remediation and facility approvals and operations,
  • provide facility specific environmental approval support,
  • act as waste/drilling waste management lead for CFD
  • support aboriginal relations group as required with environmental support and advice,
  • represent the company in government, industry and public forums on environmental issues (eg. waste management),
  • maintain current and emerging knowledge of environmental regulatory requirements as they potentially affect company business plans,
  • work closely with other teams within CFD (including BU's and Stakeholder Relations) to ensure issues are understood and properly communicated, as well as to ensure feedback / learnings from external communications are well understood,
  • interface with other environmental advisors (internal and external), stakeholders, industry associations, peer companies and government as required,
  • provide general environmental advice and support to the CFD Business Units,
  • assist in the preparation, and, as required, participating in presentations, meetings and tours with government regulators,
  • participate in industry, government, and public forums dealing with environmental issues and regulation, travel in Western Canada is required
Qualifications:
  • must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • university degree in Environmental Science, Resource Management, Engineering or a related discipline with a minimum of 3-5 years experience in an environmental advisory capacity for oil and gas developments in Western Canada
-          OR - a related technical diploma and a minimum of 5 years experience as stated above
  • excellent project management skills
  • demonstrated knowledge of Federal and Provincial environmental regulations related to oil and gas development and operations in Western Canada
  • proven understanding of waste/drilling waste management and facility environmental issues/regulations for oil and gas development in Western Canada
  • experience dealing with landowners and regulators and demonstrated ability in conflict resolution and negotiation
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • a collaborative working style and strong leadership skills
