Role synopsis
The Digital Communications team is one of the five centralised teams focussing on group-level communications issues for [Company]. The team reports to [Company] Director of Communications. Other teams are; Internal Communications, Strategic Communications, Executive Events/News & Features/Helios Awards and Corporate Reporting.
Key accountabilities
The primary aim of this role is to ensure the timely and accurate publishing of content onto [Company] and email. This involves managing the supply of materials from various contributors and delivering the content into these channels in an engaging fashion.
An Online Advisor will find him or herself working with contacts from [Company] Segments, Strategic Performance Units (SPUs) and functions who are the internal clients of the Digital Communications team. He/she will need to stay informed about those units’ objectives and their political, social, and economic environments - understanding how those units fit within [Company] overall strategy and environment.
Knowledge of our internal organisation must be balanced with an ability to understand the needs of our external stakeholder groups. An Online Advisor must be able to follow online best practice for website development and should be capable of continually assessing and analysing data to inform the direction of their sections of bp.com, [Company] or[Company] . The Online Advisor will be dealing with confidential information in a discreet and professional manner with the emphasis on maintaining strict confidentiality at all times
The Online Advisor is expected to proactively identify issues where the Communication discipline can help promote or protect [Company] reputation and interests, highlighting these issue or opportunities to relevant managers.
He/she will respond promptly and effectively to requests for advice from the business, adding value by combining business understanding with communications expertise. During times of crisis or issue management it may be necessary to operate out-of-hours shifts and/or rotas.
Essential criteria & qualifications
Educational background
• Degree and/or professional qualification in a relevant technical, scientific or business field.
Experience (years and nature)
• Typically requires a minimum of 6 year’s demonstrable experience in a range of situations.
• This role requires sound knowledge of online communications and begins to acknowledge other functions within [Company].
Other
• Production of strategic online communications programmes for client groups.
• Online project management of significant and time sensitive products/events
• (Internal) customer relationship management.
• Experience of managing complex agency relationships
• Have experience in contributing to the development of online media with a good knowledge of Internet good and best practice standards.
• Ability to work successfully in a team is essential to the success of this work, so strong demonstrations of team working and leadership will be required
Desirable criteria & qualifications
Understanding of Content Management Systems, particularly Interwoven, and demonstrable on-line communications experience would be an advantage
