This role will be accountable for leading a team and generating the following outcomes:
• Grow existing trade flow through insightful relationships that enable our Global trading teams deploy more competitive mutually advantaged spot, term and tender offers. This will require the development and maintenance of strong industry relationships, an in depth understanding of counter parties issues, capabilities, need and options.
• To originate and support the growth of longer term (>1 yr) structured positions that provide stronger base flows that generate stable income, sound bases for wider regional trading and/or growth options. Familiarity with third-party assets and structures using equity crude length, product shorts, term shipping, debt finance, working capital facilities, trading calls and commercial optimisation skills will all be an advantage.
• Enhance strategic and tactical relationships with government, regulatory, private and public sector companies (PSUs) in order to access an improved trading environment and enhanced [Company] participation in structured and spot flows of crude and products.
We have a need for a local General Manager to play a leading role in regional relationship management and combine leadership responsibilities with those of regional originator. The role holder will be expected to provide reasonable oversight and support of the day to day marketing activity. This will require a person who is an experienced oil industry player able to operate at multiple counterparty and government levels necessary to generate insights and opportunities and then, when necessary, work seamlessly back to the respective benches and colleagues to convert these into delivered business. The role requires an entrepreneurial leader able to sustain and engender motivation and a sense of real ownership in the business. An originator or marketer with a traders commercial mindset.
The role will be based in [Location] with regular travel expected to other major Indian cities, wider South Asia and Singapore. The initial team will comprise of this position and two marketers.
Key accountabilities
• Leading regional relationship management to develop and maintain regional relationships with local and national government bodies, regulators, PSU’s and private business essential to the development and delivery of our respective web strategies with India. This will include adoption and operation of the necessary relationship management systems to coordinate activity and deliver distinctive relationship management within the region.
• Prospecting and Origination of targeted new business opportunities within the region. Leading local representation, supporting or co-ordinating other Marketing and Origination transactional activity in the region in accordance with Country priorities. Liaising with Front Office and Functional Managers on operational and development issues as necessary.
• Ensures country fundamental analysis is fit for purpose and incorporates and generates regional perspective of opportunities and threats for web strategy evolution as part EH SPP
• Member of EHLT and Growth Board to provide regional perspective.
• As a member of the Growth Board supporting business development activity in India and across EH.
• Represent IST EH to, and liaising with, other Segments and County Heads in India.
Essential criteria & qualifications
Industry Knowledge
• 10 or more years Oil Industry experience with a strong bias for commercial refining and wholesale marketing experience. 5 years Supply and Trading experience as trader, marketer or originator.
• Good appreciation of value chain processes, commercial considerations and sources of value
• Actively forms and maintains strong relationships with 3rd parties and industry bodies
• Identifies, structures and executes offers that integrate stakeholder interest
• Skilful project management understanding and capabilities
Fundamentals Knowledge
• Masterful understanding of economic drivers of 3rd parties and associated risks
• Able to communicate an expert understanding of domestic and regional markets
Commercial Acumen
• Commercially astute and innovative with a track record of commercial delivery in a marketing and business development context.
• Strong negotiation skills with experience in identifying the key issues and potential solutions
• Gains new insights by challenging fixed assumptions.
Technical Capability
• Commercial aptitude to identify commercial requirements, risks and requirements to successfully develop and transact an opportunity
Relationship Management
• Strong Indian relationship management skills with track record of developing trust and generating value from key relationships
• Proven ability to influence people at all levels and challenge traditional thinking.
• Business Awareness – generates clear understanding of business context of the company and SPU, covering relationships, customer needs and competitors
Leadership and Teamwork
• A resilient self starter, proactive and takes initiative
• Ability to appropriately interchange between role of team leader, coach and player
• Able to build effective working relationships across teams including third parties.
• Accountable for the leadership, oversight, compliance with and demonstration of M&O strategy and execution activity in accordance with control and compliance requirements. Based on deal approval authority requirement, ensure the team complies with all relevant regulatory requirements, Group and IST Standards and Control Processes, for deal related activities, in particular, the IST Assurance Approval Standard.
• Performance bias with an ability to overcome obstacles, make decisions and drive the project to conclusion. Capable of subsequent operational performance management
• Excellent Hindi, other local dialects and clear English communication skills (both written and oral)
• Builds networks to enhance effectiveness and share knowledge.

• Strategically aware and able to use strategy to drive choice with an ability to translate strategies into actions and the timely delivery of business results.
Risk Management and Assurance
• Readily able to identify risk exposures and propose mitigation strategies
Desirable criteria & qualifications
Educational profile is less important than behaviours and track history of high relationship management and performance.
