Job Description:
To perform non-routine and complex drafting assignments that require the application of standardized drawing techniques. Works independently with occasional advice from management and may direct the efforts of less experienced draftspersons.
The percentages of time are associated with the “Critical Demands of Job” factor. (See Complexity of Tasks)
Responsibilities:
Ensure adherence of work to Company, state, federal codes and standards requirements. Assists Engineering in proper material procurement and reviews vendor equipment drawings for conformance to approved practices, standards, and codes governing his phase of work.
Works with Corporate Engineering to develop and maintain product standardization.
Performs investigative and reference work pertinent to the development of designs.
Utilizes sketches and data submitted to formulate and visualize original design concepts, calculates vessel requirements and checks specifications, establishes acceptable tolerances and dimensions not specified, determines requirements of layouts, material selections, type of construction, etc.
Works closely with Lead Drafter and/or Project Engineer in charge to resolve technical problems, analyzes design concepts as to feasibility of manufacturing and costs, recommends such technical changes as may be applicable to improvement of quality, operating performance and/or cost reduction.

Actively supports, participates in and maintains the integrity and on-going function of the Company and facility’s safety program; ensuring a safe/healthy work environment.

Experience / Qualifications:
- High school graduate with one year college, vocational or industrial school course in drafting.
- High aptitude in numeric ability, space relationships, mechanical reasoning and abstract reasoning.
- One to three years experience in related industry preferred.
- General knowledge of process equipment and controls manufactured by [Company] and others, to assist customer with sizing and applications.
- Proficient in the use of personal computer and utilizing various engineering design programs and drafting/design equipment.
- Ability to read and comprehend comprehensive blueprints/drawings.
- Special training in the operation of interactive graphics computer desired.
Capable of performing the following essential physical demands:
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds from floor to waist
- Must be able to perform single-handed carry up to 15 pounds
- Must be able to perform two-handed carry up to 40 pounds
- Must be able to walk on various terrain
- Depth perception
- Color vision/perception
- Hearing of sounds and speech within normal frequency/range
- Must be able to communicate in written and oral form
- Must be able to travel between operational facilities
Complexity of tasks:
- Responsible for the planning and completion of design drawings for one or more products according to Company and department procedures, and within the guidelines of engineering specifications, and safety and standards requirements.
- Requires communication skills, oral and written, in order to perform specialized engineering calculations.
- Requires a high degree of technical knowledge and competence in order to design high technology and quality oil and gas product lines.
- Responsibilities may involve highly technical, precise design concepts or entail a diversified range of products having critical requirements.
- Ability to follow directions working from verbal instructions, working independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work from drawings and customer specifications.
- Ability to comply with the facility’s production, quality and safety standards.
- Must possess a high degree of initiative, with the ability to be promptly and regularly at work.
- Ability to work fluctuating work schedules and extensive work hours required by job/shop work loads.
- Capable of performing a variety of manual assignments/tasks as defined by the critical demands of the job.
