Job Description:
Area Inspectors are responsible for maintaining the mechanical integrity of fixed equipment and piping of the refinery by performing required inspections at timely intervals to ensure equipment is meeting code and regulatory requirements.  Directly responsible for fulfilling Code required inspection activities regarding pressure vessels, storage tanks, piping systems, heaters, boilers, etc. within assigned units.  Inspectors examine, inspect, collect information and perform initial evaluations of inspection data.  They also provide recommendations. Inspectors must be very strong in inspection documentation skills and the development of inspection plans.
 
The Inspectors may be responsible for:
  • Performing all required inspections of piping and equipment.
  • Identifying equipment and piping needing repair and replacement in a proactive timely manner.
  • Maintaining corrosion under insulation inspection program.
  • Issuing welding and inspection requirements for new replacement equipment and repairs.
  • Ensuring positive material identification on new and replacement alloy components.
  • Directing Non Destructive Examination (NDE) crews performing Ultrasonic Testing, Radiographic Testing and other inspections.
  • Choosing the correct NDE technology and applications.
  • Reviewing x-ray and other NDE data.
  • Reviewing engineering packages for new installations.
  • Participating in turnaround inspections and turnaround planning.
  • Approving repairs as well as supply QA/QC on all work completed within their area/zone.
  • Writing detailed inspection and turnaround reports and maintaining files and documentation.
  • Updating equipment inspection records, piping isometrics.
 
Basic/Required Qualifications:
Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular full-time basis without restrictions
Must be able to be Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) qualified (For more information, you can visit www.tsa.gov/what_we_do/layers/twic/index.shtm )
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ten years of direct experience as an inspector
  • Ten years direct experience in refinery and/or chemical industry
  • Five years experience in piping management programs (ultrapipe and/or PCMS)
  • API certified 570,510 or NBIC 
  • Five years of direct experience with ASME B31.3 and ASME Sec 8 div 2 and NBIC
  • NDT Level ll competency for PT, UT thickness, RT interpretation and VT
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree/Trade Certifications/Diploma
  • API certified 650/653
  • AWS or API 577 certifications
  • API 571 or NACE Senior Corrosion Technician
  • NACE coatings certifications (Lvl l, ll or lll)
  • Basic knowledge in metallurgy and welding
  • Understand risk based Inspection methodologies and how to utilize methodologies
  • Computer proficient with applications such as Excel, Word, SAP and API RBI
  • Some experience with API Lvl lll RBl

This position requires you to have a TWIC card (Transportation Workers Identification Credential) to gain access to secure areas of Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) regulated facilities and vessels. Any candidate selected for this position will not be allowed to begin work without an official TWIC card or written proof of a card "in transit" or "in production" from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
