Job Description:
The Polypropylene (PP) Process Technologist provides expert consulting to global PP polymerization operations, major capital projects and business teams. The PP Process Technologist develops improved polymerization processing techniques on existing and new polypropylene manufacturing lines and is accountable for the development of leading-edge polymerization technology that provides improvements and innovations to keep the [Company] PP business competitive. The home base for this position is the Houston, Texas area.
Primary Job Functions:
- Develops process engineering improvements in the operation and performance of existing PP polymerization units including enhanced processing techniques, improved designs, and de-bottlenecks of manufacturing lines
- Worldwide PP polymerization expert; providing technology guidance to the PP business to support optimization of investment and cost of the global PP assets
- Analyzes and identifies the root causes of complex PP processing problems and provides optimized solutions
- Develops process designs for new PP facilities
- Assesses potential threats from competitive innovations and identifies mitigation strategies
- Maintains awareness of external process and catalyst technology evolution
- Identifies and initiates technology development programs to maintain competitiveness of the PP processes
- Maintains knowledge of relevant patents and licensing agreements to guide the organization in the protection of technology and intellectual property
- Provides training and mentorship to other PP engineers
- Develops tools/methodology expertise for long-term optimal project development for the PP process
- Develops polymerization expertise for long-term continuity of PP polymerization coverage for the PP business
Job Requirements:
- B.S. in Chemical Engineering or advanced degree
- Work experience in polypropylene loop reactor polymerization unit operations
- Demonstrated work experience in manufacturing environment, including plant optimization, process control, and process problem troubleshooting
- Proficiency in process design, major capital project development and polymer plant commissioning and start-up
- Willing to travel internationally; flexible and adaptable to various working conditions
- Capable of working independently and achieving high standards
Preferred knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Supervisory experience
- Excellent interpersonal, multi-cultural, public and one-on-one communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
