Job Description:
Responsible for safety policy, procedure, and communications associated with the refinery major repair events (I.e. Turnarounds) while complying with regulatory requirements and corporate standards. Also responsible for coordination of refinery Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) routine meetings, related support efforts, and improvement initiatives.
 
Primary Functions:
  • Subject matter expert (SME) responsible to maintain and identify improvements for multiple safety polices and procedures.
  • Coordinate with multiple refinery divisions to develop compliance strategies for safety procedures, train appropriate personnel on those procedures, and monitor compliance
  • Develop and support execution of safety plans for major repair events (i.e. Turnarounds)
  • Serve as the refinery coordinator for the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) that includes meeting facilitation, field support efforts, and initiatives
  • Maintains a proactive and demonstrable personal safety performance that includes compliance with all safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures
 
Preferred candidates will have:
  • Knowledge of process safety, operations, and facilities requirements in the petrochemical industry
  • Basic knowledge of facility regulations and required licenses with respect to safety, health and environment
  • Sufficient business knowledge to recommend sound business, technical/administrative and cost effective solutions
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement and decision making tools
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and obtain consensus
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and promote change across personnel with out direct authority
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills. Ability to effectively communicate at various levels of the organization.
  • Proficient computing skills and applications uses and ability to develop presentations, spreadsheets, word documents and work in databases
 
Job Requirements
  • B.S. Degree in chemical or safety engineering or related field
  • Demonstrated practical experience may substitute in lieu of degree
  • Demonstrated experience in applying petrochemical process safety and safety engineering
  • Certified Safety Professional preferred
  • Regulatory compliance experience in applying the regulations and monitoring compliance plans with Federal and California OSHA and PSM/RMP
