The successful candidate will be a part of a multi-disciplinary UOF Heavy team. The Petroleum Engineer will provide discipline technical expertise and technology planning skill. Strong communication and networking skills are required for this role as the PE will need to establish strong networks with SPU leadership, [Company] technical practitioners, and external bodies. Willingness for regular travel and occasional extended site visits will be needed. Expertise in setting up and managing R&D programs and contracts with 3rd parties is needed
Involvement with external bodies (JIPs, universities, contractors, etc. will be needed
 
Key accountabilities 
 
  • One of the core disciplines that we are seeking to fill for this multi-disciplinary team is a Petroleum Engineer with Heavy oil experience in cold (CHOPS) and thermal (i.e. SAGD) developments, production and operations
  • A partial list of key PE skills and technologies relevant to the development of the Heavy Oil resource include:
  • Sand transport ( including horizontal wells) and management
  • Downhole fluid sampling
  • PVT modeling and prediction
  • Multiphase metering
  • Artificial Lift systems
  • Heavy Oil well design and field development designs
  • Well intervention systems
  • Heavy Oil Completions design
 
Essential criteria & qualifications 
 
  • High regard for HSSE principals, as they apply to the operations environment.
  • A thorough and expert level of knowledge of petroleum engineering and operations
  • Several years of heavy oil expertise
  • Possession of an open mind to new solutions , but actions tempered by sound engineering judgment and a risked portfolio approach to activity setting
  • 10+ years experience with upstream Oil & Gas sub-surface facilities
  • Able to communicate regularly and effectively with technical practitioners to ensure integrated sub surface, surface and operations approach to solutions. Enthusiasm and the ability to enthuse others for extended periods.
  • Proven commitment to IP management and protection of [Company]’s competitive position.
  • Ability to work well with third parties, including universities, research laboratories, contractors, other companies, etc. as a [Company] representative.
 
Desirable criteria & qualifications 
 
  • Five to 7 years heavy oil experience
