The successful candidate will work within a multi disciplinary team that is focused on executing [Company]’s growth strategy for cyclic steam operations in the Clearwater formation.
Reporting to the Exploration Manager, the Project Geologist will be responsible for the following:
- Obtain a thorough understanding of the mineralogy and sedimentary characteristics of the Clearwater formation;
- Communicate key geological concepts to team members and senior management;
- Perform very detailed reviews of existing well and production data in order to optimize bitumen recovery in producing wells, and to maximize the success of future drilling;
- Use Petrel Geomodelling software to plan horizontal well bore trajectories, and, work with directional drillers using MWD technologies to steer the bit and optimize well placement;
- Participate in the planning of a long term growth strategy for the Clearwater formation; and
- Execute the growth plan in a manner that maximizes value for [Company] and its shareholders.
Candidates must have minimum of a B.Sc in Geology and one to five years of experience working in an oil and gas production company. Experience in thermal oil sands and a solid understanding of Clastic Sedimentology will be considered an asset. Solid computer skills and experience drilling horizontal wells using advanced geo-steering techniques will be given preference. Experience with Accumap, Petra and Petrel Geo-model would be valueable.
A strong work ethic, good interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to take on an ever increasing level of responsibility are required.
