The Subsea Controls Engineer, working within the central Subsea & Floating Systems team within EPT, will execute and support a wide range of projects from Technical Service Work in support of Strategic Performance Units around the world, discrete pieces of development for the Deep Water Facilities Technology flagship and support the Subsea Segment Executive Technical Authority (SETA).
Ideally your working knowledge will encompass subsea production and water injection systems, including one or more of the following: Subsea Control Systems, HIPPS, Umbilicals, Chemical Injection Systems and IWOCS. General knowledge of Subsea Operations & Integrity Management, Subsea Hardware, Flow Assurance, Pipelines & Flowlines, Engineering Processes and Wells would also be an advantage. The Subsea Controls Engineer reports to the Subsea Discipline Lead. The position requires periodic travel to [Company] sites and office locations worldwide.
Key accountabilities
Contribute to the delivery of E&P Subsea & Floating Systems and Deep Water Facilities Technology performance contracts.
Provide subsea technical support to our global Strategic Performance Units including but not limited to:
- Ad-hoc technical support to Projects and Operations within SPUs with a subsea element.
- Support the provision of Subsea Technical Authority duties to SPUs (e.g. Azerbaijan, Egypt)
- Support the delivery of small subsea projects on behalf of SPUs as required
- Support the implementation of [Company] Subsea Reliability Strategy (e.g. engage in TRAPs, TRAP training)
- Support the creation of access to key specialist subsea skills across the industry
Provide subsea technical support in the evaluation of subsea related R&D projects within the Deepwater Facilities Technology, including but not limited to.
- Subsea Compression
- Subsea Processing (Separation & Pumping)
- Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (low logistic & PAIV)
Provide subsea technical support to the Subsea SETA, including but not limited to:
- Attending/Organising/Chairing Subsea Peer Assists to support progression of Subsea Projects through the CVP.
- The creation of a global database of Subsea facilities within[Company] , enabling identification of:
- existing mature technology across [Company] global Operations
- opportunities for enhancing or enabling technology within [Company] global Projects
- The re-invigoration of the subsea lessons learned process across [Company] subsea Projects and Operations
- Identification of high value lessons for discrete in-depth studies in pursuit of the Defect Elimination/Continuous Improvement Agenda.
- Update of relevant Subsea ETPs
- The review of subsea discipline health across [Company]
A personal commitment to HSSE issues is of paramount importance and the Senior Subsea Controls Engineer will be required to set a personal example in this area.
Essential criteria & qualifications
Candidates should have a suitable engineering degree, a proven track record of delivery of subsea engineering with a willingness and ability to work with other disciplines. Ideally the candidate can demonstrate the following skills and characteristics:
- An expert level understanding of subsea engineering and related issues
- An expert level understanding of issues relating to deep water field development
- An ability to manage outsourced studies and external contractors
- An ability to work on a diverse range of projects
- Self motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- A clear track record of delivery on technical issues
- Good communication, to all levels in the organisation
- An ability to define and prioritize multiple issues
Desirable criteria & qualifications
- The skills to mentor graduate programme engineers and other members of staff
