Role synopsis
To ensure the safe and efficient operation, maintenance and repair of the boilers, propulsion unit, cargo handling equipment and all machinery and electrical items on board.
Purpose of the Job:
To operate, repair and maintain machinery and equipment associated safe handling of cargoes.
Key accountabilities
- To assist the Chief Engineer and Chief Officer in the preparation of spare gear and equipment requirements.
- To complete routine engineering duties required in the normal operation of the vessel and by Planned Maintenance Systems.
- To act as a member of the Shipboard Emergency Response and Fire Fighting Team.
- To be employed on day work to operate and carry out maintenance tasks on the cargo handling equipment under the direction of the Chief Engineer and Chief Officer.
- To be responsible for the maintenance, testing and operation of Nitrogen (where fitted) and Inert Gas operating plant, together with fixed Dry Powder Systems and Fixed Gas Detection equipment.
- To carry out ISPS duties in accordance with the vessel Ship Security plan QA
Responsibilities:
- To become familiar and comply with the relevant contents of the Quality Assurance.
Essential criteria & qualifications
- OOW III/1, DCE (Gas) is preferred (not essential). 24 months on tankers (oil/gas). Fluent in spoken and written English
Desirable criteria & qualifications
- 2 years working experience on gas tankers.
