Job Responsibilities:
Company Associates is seeking an Intermediate Contaminant Hydrogeologist to join its dynamic Geosciences team in the Barrie office.


As a key member of the team, the successful candidate will be involved in a broad range of responsibilities:
  •  Conducting and managing multiple, diverse projects including contaminated sites investigations and soil and groundwater remediation assessments.
  • Designing and conducting field investigations including soil and groundwater investigations, pump tests, injection tests and site characterisation investigations.
  • Assisting in the development of remedial action plans using innovative and proven technologies.
  • Field work will be required including soil and groundwater sampling, site reconnaissance, well installation oversight, aquifer testing, site remediation and subcontractor coordination and oversight.
  • Field data analysis and interpretation, report writing and client/project management.
  • Work with senior Company colleagues and Company’s clients in the manufacturing, waste, mining, resource and oil industries to produce conclusions, recommendations and develop long-term environmental.
 


Barrie is located 100 km north of Toronto in an area of thick Quaternary aged overburden. Paleozoic bedrock of Silurian age outcrop in the Niagara Escarpment 50 km to the west and Ordovician aged bedrock outcrops 30 km to the east. Precambrian bedrock of the Central Gneiss Belt outcrops 50 km to the east. There is a thriving folk-blues-roots music scene in the area, while mountain biking, skiing and boating are common recreational activities.


Job Requirements:
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Contaminant Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or Geology (Master's degree preferred).
  • Five years relevant experience is preferred, but consideration will be given to strong candidates who may not fulfill this requirement.
  • Strong all-round academic knowledge of contaminant hydrogeology and geo-environmental engineering
  • Experience with design and implementation of soil and groundwater investigations (Phase I, II, III), site remediation and environmental permitting.
  • Strong field experience including borehole logging, monitoring well installations, hydraulic conductivity testing and pump testing. Knowledgeable about environmental field sampling and field analytical equipment.
  • Knowledge of Provincial and Federal Environmental Regulations. 
  • Experience with industry-standard hydrogeology packages such as Modflow, Aqtesolv and Flowpath preferred but not required.
  • Strong computer skills, including GIS, Excel, database software, etc. preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, critical thinking and leadership skills are essential.
  • Academic qualifications which give the candidate eligibility for professional registration in Ontario.
