Position Summary:
Provide technical support of electronic, instrumentation, automated control, and computerized systems to ensure the smoothness of drilling execution with optimal performances. Will also provide technical solutions and expertise to ensure integrity, reliability, safety and environmental integrity of the drilling facilities electrical equipment.
Essential Job Functions:
Electronics Maintenance
Perform maintenance of electronic systems to ensure equipment is operating safely, efficiently, and within manufacturer's specifications.
Supervises the inspection, commissioning, and troubleshooting of low voltage, automated control, instrumentation, and computerized systems down to board level components
Perform test of electronics and control systems as needed to qualify functionality of electronic equipment as well as automation based control system programming following maintenance and repairs to ensure safe and proper operation as per equipment design.
Oversee and perform electronic and automated control system calibration, circuit tuning, and other adjustments in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.
Maintains records of electronic maintenance performed and reviews maintenance history for indications of required system improvements; make recommendations to improve performance and reliability of electronic systems.
Mentor rig personnel in best practices of system maintenance
General Maintenance
Evaluates equipment performance and monitors use; determines and interprets performance data and selects equipment to be used for maximum reliability.
Inspects, services, troubleshoots, and repairs equipment intended for services in both safe (non-hazardous) and hazardous areas
Performs testing and validate protective equipment settings.
Configures, modifies, and tests electronic equipment; programming logic, reads and interprets prints, schematics, isometric diagrams, wiring diagrams, regulatory rules, and technical manuals.
Uses technical manuals and reference sources to find information regarding parts, repairs, replacements, operational conditions and procedures, and repair procedures.
Coordinates and implements drills and periodic testing of equipment as required.
Calibrates, maintains, and repairs test equipment and tools.
Conducts and documents inventory of tools and parts, ensuring that they are available for work assignments and in good operational condition; requisitions additional parts and supplies to maintain adequate inventory and ensures rotation of spare parts.
Keeps records of planned and preventative maintenance, including scheduled manufacturer recommended testing.
Performs all preventative maintenance according to manufacturer's specifications.
Maintains records of readings and tests.
Ensures electronic equipment inventory is maintained, organized, and labeled for easy access to eliminate operational failures and downtime.
Updates rig drawings or recommends drawing changes based on work performed.
Safety:
Participates in the Safety Training Observation Program (S.T.O.P) and in the weekly and pre-tour safety meetings.
Develops and implements Job Safety Analyses.
Participates in safety and job-specific training programs.
Ensures any unsafe conditions are immediately reported; takes appropriate temporary action to prevent accidents until the unsafe condition is fully corrected.
Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe work area.
Performs all duties in accordance with the Permit to Work System.
Secondary Job Functions:
Acts as a member of the technical team in the event of a fire or other emergency; participates in meetings and drills as a member of an emergency team.
Maintains updated knowledge of electronic systems and of safety requirements and regulations concerning the use and maintenance of electronic equipment.
Performs all other duties and special projects as requested by management.
Experience / Qualifications:
Associate's degree in electronic technology or related educational equivalent from an accredited technical school, trade school, or institute is desirable. Bachelor degree or equivalent related experience preferred.
Professional Experience:
10 years offshore as a Electrician/Electrical Supervisor / Chief Engineer or industry experience in the area of related equipment and systems
Licenses, Certifications, Credentials, and Other Requirements:
Offshore survival and medical certificates as mandated by government regulations are required.
