Job Description:
Oversee and direct domestic and international transportation of freight for distribution centers and corporate departments. Negotiate freight rates with all freight carriers. Conduct on-going freight analysis for transportation improvements and better efficiencies.
Essential Functions
Interact with freight carriers on discount rates, service and billing; supervise and monitor freight bill auditing and payment processes; assist in transactional component of freight rate negotiations with carriers and analyze service performance.
Establish and maintain vehicle files to comply with statutory and regulatory guidelines; maintain carrier insurance certificates.
Assist branches with fleet reports from leasing company; work with branches on routing guide access and usage.
Audit LTL (Less Than Truckload) data on a monthly basis and monitor and correct compliance.
Provide backup support for vehicle maintenance questions and regulatory approval for fleet vehicles.
Prepares various freight cost analysis to determine level of effectiveness and efficiency.
Assists with developing and supervising international shipping practices and procedures.
Manages a third party freight payment system for payment/audit of freight bills, routing of freight, charge backs and monitoring vendor service levels.
Maintain and communicate knowledge of all rules and regulations governing the movement of freight, domestically and internationally, and industry trends and practices.
Manage inbound and outbound freight traffic for distribution center and other facilities/departments.
Oversee and direct acquisition of new fleet vehicles and disposition of old vehicles; review requisitions to lease, replace and dispose of vehicles.
Qualifications:
High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) and/or three to seven years related experience
Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.
Ability to utilize the available time to organize and complete work within given deadlines.
Ability to take care of the customers' needs while following company procedures.
Ability to bring energy to the performance of a task.
Ability to make decisions or take actions to solve a problem or reach a goal.
Ability to get along well with a variety of personalities and individuals.
Skills & Abilities:
Computer Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Other Requirements:
Bachelor's degree preferred. Knowledge of all laws and regulations as they pertain to traffic, such as National Motor Freight Classification Tariff. Working knowledge of carrier contracts, freight claim filings, and motor carrier cargo insurance. Knowledge of Customs rules and regulations, NAFTA Certificates, Letters of Credit (L/C). Prior experience interacting with Customs Brokers strongly preferred.
