Summary:
The Technical Limit Engineers work in a team of drilling personnel on detail planning, execution, follow-up and reporting drilling activities, in accordance with high standards of continuous improvement, technical limit planning and application of best practice in operations.
 
This position may be resident or rotational depending on operational requirements.
 
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned).
Tracks, Records, Creates database, processes data, analyzes and presents information relevant to improve the quality and performance in drilling operations. He /She will work collaboratively to create drilling procedures and policies and formalize them to be put into practice
Requires strong interpersonal skills with ability to effectively work within a multi-disciplinary team to achieve project related goals.
Efficient at managing meetings: time management, clear objectives, agenda and documented actions.
Efficient time management and the ability to concurrently handle multiple projects. Ability to work independently, self-motivated.
Be able to deal logically and effectively with all levels of management. Be proficient with staff work including oral and written communications.
Develops, plans, costs, schedules and supervises the operations necessary to the process of drilling oil and gas wells, from initial well design to testing, completion and abandonment. Engineers are employed on land, on offshore platforms or on mobile drilling units, either by the operating oil company, a specialist drilling contractor or a service company.
Work with other professionals, such as geologists and geoscientists, to monitor drilling progress, oversee safety management and ensure the protection of the environment.
Works with management to create performance objectives and KPIs
Works together with maintenance personnel to identify risks, formalize maintenance procedures to effectively work in cohesion with least disruption to drilling operations and systems.
Creates and presents trends and performance reports
Participates in operational meetings to identify efficiency, safety potential; failures/learnt lessons within and other operational areas.
Reviews and knows contract objectives in a certain area
Knows the drilling program of the area
Knows the equipment present in the area to fulfill the contract’s requirements
Works collaboratively with field operations/field personnel in order to ensure performance
Is in contact with the customer at a technical level
Keeps track of the operation and records it
Measures the competitor’s performance by the reports sent by the customer and compares it to the company’s performance.
Will assist the management in presentations
Will assist the division in audits related to performance (quality, maintenance, etc.).
 
During the Pre-Ops phase
Works with operations management team to write, formalize and format rig specific documents related to all aspects of drilling operations.
Supports and works to create and develop systems and documentation relevant to safely and efficiently carry out field drilling operations relevant to drilling rig.
 
Typical work activities will also include:
Preparing well data sheets;
Recommending inputs to drilling programmes taking into account desired levels of efficiency, safety and minimal to nil environmental impact.  
Obtaining relevant data, carrying out analysis on site and recommending immediate actions as necessary;
Carrying out operational engineering analyses of rig site data and preparing regular well reports;
monitoring the daily progress of well operations and current daily costs, comparing actual costs with cost expenditure proposals and recommending changes or improvements to rig work techniques, which could lead to optimisation of expenditure;
Liaising with specialist contractors and suppliers, such as cement companies or suppliers of drilling fluids;
Monitoring safety and ensuring the good maintenance of the well;
Adhering to environmental protection standards to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and/or policies dictated;
Collaboratively work with the drilling team;
 
Other:
Must be available to travel at any time
Must be available to relocate
 
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
 
Must be able to understand and work mathematical equations.
Must be able to develop and present spread sheets and graphical, trend representations.
Must be able to develop and make presentations as may be required.
Must be able to problem solve.
Must be a self-motivator and work without close supervision.
Must be able to prioritize jobs and work under tight time constraints.
Must be available to the company the 24 hours of every day
 
Education and/or Experience
Diploma in any engineering faculty or relevant subject is preferred.
Must have 2 to 4 years experience in preferably around drilling operations /  engineering, field operations or field work and/or related subjects.
Must understand, interpret, and implement applicable regulations within business unit regulatory jurisdiction.
Must understand to develop technical limits information related to drilling operations.
Working experience with an international drilling contractor, drilling technology, drilling service company or operator is preferred.
Must have excellent computer skills (preferably Microsoft Word®, Excel®, Access®, PowerPoint® and Publisher® software).
