Job Description:
The Payroll Clerk is an integral member of the Payroll team in Human Resources at [Company] . This position coordinates activities engaged in recording hours of work, processing time records, compiling payroll statistics, maintaining payroll control records, and calculating payrolls. This role will also support the Payroll Manager with various special projects as assigned.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following: (other duties may be assigned).
Ensure all Alaska payrolls are completed timely and accurately
Calculates hours from Rig timesheets and enters/uploads data into Lawson
Reviews payroll data entered for accuracy and corrects any errors
Reviews calculation of wages, taxes and deductions for accuracy each payroll
Inputs employees’ direct deposit and federal and state tax withholding information
Assists with the printing of payroll checks and verifies check log for audit control
Responsible for inputting the withholding and remittance of the United Way campaign pledges.
Prepares state tax payments for review by the Payroll Manager, processes payments for the various states monthly, quarterly, and or annually
Coordinates escheat process of stale dated checks with the Tax Department
Completes various employment verification requests
Prepares state UI and quarterly tax payments for review by Payroll Manager
Maintains and updates PTO log
Maintains all subsidy program such as toll/gas and Metro/van pool, submits all reimbursements to Payroll Manager for approval
Prepares Month End account reconciliations for Payroll Manager approval
Works alongside HR verifying all Alaska employee changes and updates
Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required
Must possess basic math skills and be proficient in operation of a calculator
Must possess basic computer skills with ability to use a windows based payroll system
Must have a solid understanding of payroll and payroll tax laws
Must have knowledge of laws related to garnishment, wage and hour, and labor
Must have experience with Microsoft Office suite
Education and/or Experience:
A High School diploma or equivalent is required
At least 2 years accounting or in-house payroll experience is required
Experience with Lawson software is strongly preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
CPP preferred but not required, as is membership in the American Payroll Association.
