The Compliance and Decision Support application stream is responsible for Application maintenance and Delivery for a set of Pan IST applications that are used for Compliance and to support IST level decision making.
A Business Analyst (BA) is required to join the delivery team to take a leading role in the business engagement, requirements gathering, analysis, planning and 3rd Line Support activities.
The BA will work closely with the business to understand the current operating model, existing solutions, business problems & issues. He/she will identify improvements, influence & shape requirements and work with the business, architecture team and Application Delivery teams to define changes in order to maximise the benefits delivered to the organisation.
The Business Analyst role requires a solid understanding of Compliance and Trade Control business processes and the use of data to support decision making in a financial organisation. Candidates will have an excellent track record as a business analyst with experience of business analysis methods, preferably in a commodities trading or investment banking environment.
This is a demanding delivery role facing off to the business community and architecture team. The role requires an individual who wants to apply and expand their existing skills and knowledge in a complex environment whilst welcoming and overcoming fresh challenges.
Key accountabilities
• Identify, engage, and manage key business stakeholders to secure appropriate business resources to support their portfolio of applications.
• Perform business analysis according to prevailing delivery/support agenda and standards. Facilitate business requirements, prototyping and product demonstration meetings & workshops.
• Drive any key issues through to resolution with key stakeholders and other communities within the business and IT&S.
• Work closely with the business using a structured approach to define and document detailed processes and business change for successful implementations
• Work closely with the Architecture Team to understand and refine the Target Operating Model.
• Produce detailed functional specifications.
• Ensure effective and accurate knowledge transfer of the detailed requirements to architecture, development & testing teams.
• Actively embody and reinforce a strong team culture, providing motivation, inspiration, focus, support and education, especially to less senior BAs within the team.
• Provide regular reports for analysis activities to inform of progress against the plan and highlighting any significant risks & issues.
• Own, coordinate and manage the Training and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities for their portfolio of applications.
• Ensure new business processes and organisational change enables benefits to be realised & monitored post-implementation.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with the stakeholders, users, architects, developers & testers, and, facilitate communication & education between various disciplines.
• Develop, support and enhance domain knowledge & capability with respect to the C&DS systems and business.
• Oversee analysis activities as part of the Change Control Process.
Essential criteria & qualifications
• Education to at least degree level or equivalent; preferably in a numerate subject.
• Experience of several full project lifecycle projects in a Senior BA/BA Lead role.
• Detailed understanding and demonstrable experience of Compliance aligned to trading.
• Systems analysis methodologies, standards, tools and techniques e.g. UML, SSADM.
• Experience of identifying, negotiating and agreeing requirements with business customers and translating them into IT solutions through further analysis with architecture, developers and testers.
• Strong, confident and persuasive style that is complemented by well-developed listening, verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to build strong relationships with a range of stakeholders and to operate successfully at all levels within a team/organisation.
• Experience of working with external suppliers, vendors and partners; including onshore and offshore teams.
• Experience of complex, distributed & tightly coupled solutions.
• Experience of data analysis & data modelling techniques & tools.
Competencies:
(Levels range from 1 to 5. They are: 1 = Awareness, 2 = Basic Application, 3 = Skilful Application, 4 = Mastery, 5 = Expert)
• Business Analysis - Takes responsibility for investigative work to determine requirements and specify effective business processes, through improvements in information systems, data management, practices, procedures, organisation and equipment. Applies and monitors the use of required modelling and analysis tools, methods and standards.
• Business process improvement - Analyses business processes; identifies alternative solutions, assesses feasibility and recommends new approaches. Contributes to evaluating the factors that must be addressed in the change programme. Helps establish requirements for the implementation of changes in the business process.
• Being Influential - Communicates fluently and effectively, formally and informally, with colleagues, subordinates and customers, on both technical and non-technical matters. Has clear understanding of the relationship between own area of responsibility/specialisation and the wider business. Takes customer requirements into account when making proposals.
• Dealing with Complexity - Performs a challenging range and variety of complex technical or professional work activities. Work requires application of fundamental principles in a wide and often unpredictable range of contexts.
• Consultancy - Provides well-informed advice ensuring that it is properly understood and appropriately exploited, to enhance the effectiveness of significant activities.
• Delivery Lifecycle - Promotes and ensures use of structured phased approach to the analysis, design, development and delivery of IT solutions as well as identifying for each phase that the capabilities, deliverables, and techniques are adhered to and maintained across the organisation and by skill set.
• All the above skills at Level 3 or higher, i.e. Skilful Application
Desirable criteria & qualifications
• Successful delivery of commercial off the shelf and bespoke Compliance and Decision Support applications.
• Knowledge of major Compliance vendor packages.
• Some knowledge of Global Policy and Active Directory and products such as Altiris used to control compliance to company policy.
• Some knowledge of Technical Network Infrastructure including Firewall technology.
• Experience of using the following tools: ARIS, Enterprise Architect, Rational Rose, Test Director/Quality Centre and/or JIRA.
• Experience of working with global teams.
• Experience of working in a structured testing environment or role.
• Project management methodologies, e.g. Prince 2/ PMP.
