Specific roles & responsibilities:
Management
- Provide leadership for all engineers in group to ensure the delivery of quality work.
- Ensure all engineering personnel are aware of BMS (Business Management System).
- Interface with discipline leads and / or group leads to ensure deliverable schedule is being met and budget is on track.
- Ensure schedule of engineering is linked to package and fabrication supply.
- Manage and participate in technical audits of projects and studies.
Technical
- Maintain register of any DCN's and ensure back-up data are attached.
- Ensure all documents are checked and approved and have relevant IDC or SDC circulations.
- Manage activities on engineering schedule to ensure compliance.
- Responsible to Project Manager for delivery to project of all engineering requirements.
- Responsible for ensuring that standard of engineering services provided complies with corporate standards and processes and Client specifications along with appropriate legislation.
Commercial / Financial
- Ensure plan is developed from CTR catalogues produced at tender stage
- Develop & manage manhour estimates and engineering schedule to provide historical (as spent) data and also to have an accurate forecast of what is required to complete workscope.
- Encourage awareness and reporting of variations to contract scope. Assist in providing input to contracts manager for VOs.
Project-specific
- Prepare close-out and lessons learnt reports.
- Maintain Risk Register - provide input on technical and safety risks.
- Participate in HSE&Q plan development.
- Liaise with QA to develop Audit / Verification Schedule. Also develop schedule of Design Reviews / HAZOP / HAZID's.
- Manage register of non-conformances.
- Chair kick-off meeting and regular engineering meetings with project and client.
- Manage as-built dossier.
- Prepare Basis of Design and maintain revision register.
- Prepare input to engineering sections of progress reports.
- Attend kick-off meeting with fabricator and key equipment suppliers.
- Identify project resource requirements and liaise with Corporate engineering Manger to ensure availability and allocation.
- Identify and quantify any client engineering changes to contract.
- Promote and facilitate project team awareness of company QA and HSE procedures.
- Ensure that all procedures and methods of work developed have considered the safety of personnel and assets to minimise loss.
- Manage internal and external engineering interfaces. Ensure interface register is developed and maintained.
- Facilitate team spirit with project.
Tenders
- Act as focal point within Engineering for engineering interface with BA.
- Collate and review engineering manhours, deliverables and schedule.
- Review qualifications.
Procurement
- The engineering manager, following negotiation with the project manager, will be expected to take responsibility for technical and delivery aspects of procurement.
- To also ensure that there is adequate engineering support to procurement.
- This will typically include items such as:
- Linepipe
- Flanges, Fittings, Bolts, Gaskets
- Valves
- Controls
- Umbilicals
- Flexibles
- Liaise with QA to identify inspection requirements and timing of visits.
Fabrication
- Similarly to procurement, accept responsibility for all technical and delivery aspects of fabrication. This will be carried out in conjunction with negotiation with the construction and project manager
Installation Engineering
- Although installation engineering responsibility lies with the construction/installation manager, the engineering manager should not only be liaising on such issues but advising where Central Engineering may be able to add value.
Reporting:
- Reports verbally on a day-to-day basis to the Project Manager.
- Reports monthly, formally, to Projects Engineering Manager.
Personal Attributes:
- Ability to lead an engineering team across multiple projects.
- Sound communication skills, oral, written and electronic.
- Ability to prioritise own and others' workload, manage time and change control accordingly and direct team members where constraints will affect a project in terms of programme or budget.
- Ability to manage interfaces within a project structure, including other disciplines, drawing office, document control, project management, client and suppliers.
- Demonstrable ability to work within time/budget constraints
- Commitment to CPD.

Qualifications and Education
- Degree qualified
- Chartered Engineer or equivalent experience
Experience
- Work within the O&G industry preferred
- Able to manage and supervise more junior engineers.
- Self-starter, capable of working independently or as part of a larger multidisciplinary team
