The Environment & Corporate Responsibility team requires a qualified professional to provide strategic advice to the corporation on various environmental policy areas. In particular, experience in, risk assessment, strategic planning, and public policy is desired, along with a familiarity of environmental issues related to air, water, land use, cumulative effects, and biodiversity. An understanding of emerging legislative and regulatory issues is critical. This position will assist with the development and implementation of 1) long-term strategic plans and innovative approaches to manage risk and capture opportunity for the corporation; and 2) responses to emerging environmental issues. The position will appeal to individuals who are quick learners, concise communicators, highly motivated, and enjoy working within a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
 
Responsibilities:
  • conduct analytical work with the Divisions to assess impact of emerging environmental issues, trends and regulations on company business plans, including development of models, cost-benefit analyses and forecasts to determine the impact of various legislative/regulatory scenarios on [Company] and succinctly communicate the significance of these issues
  • work to integrate these emerging issues into the business risk assessment, fundamentals and strategic planning processes and work with the business divisions to develop innovative strategic plans
  • analyze and prepare briefing notes, presentations, and advisory papers
  • in concert with the Divisions, analyze and synthesize environmental data into meaningful performance indicators and evaluate trends to determine the impact on our business
  • partner and interface with strategic planning and environmental experts across [Company]’s Corporate and Operating groups, as well as industry, stakeholders, and government
 
Qualifications: 
 
  • must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Business, Engineering, Energy, or Public Policy is required; Graduate level degree is preferred
  • familiarity with environmental issues impacting the oil and gas industry including broad exposure to public policy issues; experience with water, land and/or air issues is also an asset
  • demonstrated ability to develop innovative approaches to addressing environmental issues while aligning them with business drivers
  • minimum of five years experience dealing with environment and energy related public policy issues
  • strong analytical skills required
  • ability to work in cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams • ability to function effectively in a dynamic working environment
  • ability to set priorities and manage workload with minimal supervision
  • must be able to understand and communicate complex issues
  • strong written and verbal communication skills are essential
  • good problem solving and an ability to handle sensitive issues in a professional manner
  • working knowledge of MS Office Suite with a focus on PowerPoint and Excel
