Job Description
 
1. Implements and coordinates system upgrades, new installations, and operation and maintenance programs related to Communications, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Telemetry, Stations, Gas Odorization, Measurement Installations, and LNG Plant operations.
 
These duties include:
  • planning and coordinating system developments
  • developing, implementing and conduction, maintenance and calibration programs
  • configures and develops software for the equipment listed above
  • troubleshoots system failures and determines the need for and arranges for or conducts repairs
  • develops work procedures and instructions
  • identifies user requirements/problems and recommends possible solutions
 
2. Assumes a leadership role on committees involved with performing a full range of complex technical and statistical functions.
 
Duties include:
  • establishing user requirements
  • performing evaluation and acceptance tests
  • gathering and analysis of data;
  • evaluating the risk of various alternatives;
  • analyzing data, and researching discrepancies, and,
  • providing recommendations and implementing solutions.
 
3. Calibrates, configures, repairs, installs and utilizes various instruments and measurement devices to ensure compliance with provincial and federal requirements.  This includes gas testing equipment, and involves proximity to toxic gases.
 
4. Responsible for developing, maintaining and operating Quality Assurance program(s).
 
5. Prepares and presents training sessions to technicians, technologists, trades people, contractors, trainers and administrators.
 
6. Interprets and notes changes on drawings to record modifications and improvements to the system.
 
7. Establishes and maintains liaisons with vendors, gas utilities, government agencies, professional associations, standards organizations, internal and external customers, including:
  • Discussing business practices, mutual needs, concerns and activities;
  • Coordinating, negotiating, implementing and monitoring work and
  • Maintaining liaison with other specialists as required.
 
8. Witnesses and conducts inspections at large gas sales stations and vendor facilities in order to ensure the accuracy and quality of measurement systems and equipment.
 
9. Maintains a current knowledge of new developments in technology, safety, quality, and regulations by attending conferences, seminars, and reviewing technical papers
 
10.  As requirement, manually controls regulator stations, or other parts of gas system for maintenance of instrumentation or emergency purposes; determines optimum control mode setting by analytical or experimental techniques and adjusts the equipment accordingly.
 
11.  Provides support for the Gs lab by providing odorant survey sampling.
 
12.  Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties including driving a vehicle which do not affect the rating of the job.
 
Qualifications 
  • Completion of recognized post-secondary technologist diploma program in an appropriate electronics engineering technology, or equivalent education.
  • Certified, at the technologist level, by the Applied Sciences Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia. 
  • Certified by the BC Electrical Branch as an IN or LO Accredited Representative, or equivalent
  • Five (5) years directly related relevant experience. 
  • Sound computer literacy including advanced knowledge of application software used in the department.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a project leader and without direct supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to provide direction to peers within a self directed work team
  • Demonstrated superior customer service skills
  • Demonstrated superior analytical abilities and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated superior oral, written communications and presentation skills.
  • Liaison experience with utility companies, government agencies, suppliers, contractors and industry associations
  • Ability to work outdoors in all conditions.
  • Valid British Columbia Driver's Licence.
