Purpose:
Job descriptions are intended to describe only the principal duties and responsibilities of a position. They are not meant to be either an inclusive or exclusive list of all work, tasks and functions of any particular job.
1. Provides design, development, testing, operations, and maintenance of software applications through their entire life cycle, which includes:
- Works with Business Units/Departments/Clients to analyze business information requirements and translate these requirements into conceptual/logical models and interfaces. Develops the architecture and design that best supports the business.
- Produces detailed software design and functional specifications in response to the designs.
- Develops software code based on design specifications.
- Writes, modifies and integrates code for new and existing software applications.
- Maintains and documents code using source control system.
- Performs rigorous unit testing of all developed software modules.
- Prepares user test scripts for User Acceptance Testing.
- Schedules and deploys software applications into production environment after receiving approval from the application owner or approver.
- Prepares and maintains manuals and other documentations relating to the operations, administration, and maintenance of software.
- Works with Application Support Analysts to diagnose defects within the software applications and develop best possible solutions.
- Provides technical administration and operational support for new and existing software applications.
- Provides off hour, on call support as defined by business and operational requirements.
- Works with other application developers to set standards and define best practices for coding and design.
- Maintains competency in current software development practices and other areas of professional knowledge relevant to development activities.
- Provides guidance, training and mentoring in applications, tools and systems to new Application Developers.
2. Coordinates the work of external service providers to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of business applications to business units.
3. Acts as the technical liaison between business units and Application Support Analysts, TES Technical Support, Terasen Gas infrastructure team, and application maintenance outsource partners.
4. Researches and evaluates a variety of software products as well as staying abreast of new technologies and best practices in software development methodologies.
5. Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the job.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering plus Six (6) years of demonstrable professional experience developing and delivering high quality software applications.
- Demonstrable proficiency in either Microsoft .NET or Java development, and object oriented design methodologies (If .NET, demonstrable proficiency in C#, C++, and Visual Basic is a must and If Java, demonstrable proficiency in Java and J2EE is a must)
- Experience in COM+, VBA, ADO, ASP, XML, XSL, and Javascript.
- Experience in developing multi-tier applications.
- Proficient in interfacing with relational databases, in particular Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle.
- Demonstrable understanding of the software product development life cycle.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to write varying levels of technical design documents.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently or in a team environment.
- Strong analytical and excellent troubleshooting skills.
- Proven interpersonal communication and team skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with both technical and non-technical individuals, in gathering information and communicating direction
