Description

Senior Staff Drilling Engineer (Western)

 
The position will support all drilling engineering programs in the Western Onshore Division of the El Paso E&P Company. More specifically, the position will provide drilling engineering support for capital programs in the Uintah, Powder River, Raton and other Rocky Mountains Basins.  Primary responsibilities will be, but not limited to the following:
 
Report to the Western Division Drilling Manager.
Have a strong focus on Safety and Management of Change.
Prepare drilling AFEs and cost estimates.
Research offset wells for drilling problems, hazards and other potential issues.
Creation of a "risk register map" for areas with ongoing drilling activity.
Prepare detailed drilling program documents with plans and contingencies.
Organize and lead DWOP and Pre-spud meetings with service providers and rig crews.
Monitor daily drilling activity and progress.
Review daily drilling reports (i.e. DIMS) and correct as necessary.
Review daily cost reports and correct as necessary.
Assist in capital tracking and planning.
Mentor and train less experienced drilling engineers in the group.
Work with superintendent and rig supervisors/consultants on areas of improvement.
Work closely with SCM to solicit bids on rig equipment and peripheral services.
Ensure close cooperation with Regulatory and Permitting group.
Stay abreast of changes in technical regulatory requirements for BLM and state APDs.
Work closely with EH&S, Regulatory, Geology, and Asset Team Engineers.
Responsible for providing updates, recommendations and presentation to Drilling and Operations Management regarding ongoing drilling projects and their projected outcome.
Manage multiple ongoing and complex projects concurrently with multiple time lines to ensure critical path progress.
Occasional field trips required to monitor ongoing operations.
Rig supervision duties may also be required on an as needed basis.
 
Qualifications

The successful candidate for this position must have the following:

 
•A Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline.
•At least 15 years of experience as a drilling engineer.
•Significant Rocky Mountains drilling experience.
•Uintah Basin drilling experience is a plus.
