Our Fort McMurray client is looking for an Instrumentation Design Specialist for a long term contract. The Instrumentation Design Specialist provides technical and engineering support to project RFO team with expertise in the field of instrumentation and control, valves , SIS system and equipments as priorities dictate.
Provide input & support in conducting the formal acceptance of completion of construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, operational testing, start-up and the final unit handovers of Control and instrumentation system to Base Plant.
Development of systems and documentation required for flawless Handover to the base plant.
Responsibilities:
Following shall be prime responsibilities but not limited to:
- Range of work is considerable: review P&ID’s; participate in HAZOP / Risk Assessment meetings, QA activities;
- Review, comment and raise RFI on Instrumentation and Control System documents and drawings (such as data sheets, loop drawings, logic diagrams, cause & effect, control narratives, installation / mounting drawings, perform loop tuning / optimization; and / or perform control systems integration.
- Configuration and implement design changes in control system during start-up & commissioning, involve in system hook-up and networking.
- Coordination and communication with project RFO team, engineering and construction team and base plant PC&A team to ensure all the internal / external departments understand the minimum requirements of project RFO in both instrumentation and control systems.
- To ensure standardization of engineering practices across company based on company Engineering Standards and Specifications.
- Provide technical support to help develop procedure requirements to ensure a safe, incident-free, integrated start up.
- Provide instrumentation and SIS system support from construction through to commissioning to final Hand-over to base plant.
- Provides recommendation for formal acceptance at Mechanical Completion (ready to energize)
- Provide technical support in the achievement of equipment performance testing, MCOS (minimum conditions of satisfaction) and development of Hand-over plan
- Provide technical & system support in the Integration of project plans/schedules with base plant plans and schedules
- The nature of the work requires that the employee display a strong understanding of the instrument specifications and control system requirements. As well, the person must be familiar with the processes and associated plant equipment.
- Quality and standardization of instrumentation products and SIS systems within the Area and within overall company site based on standards published by ISA and other institutes currently used in North America and adopted by company.
- Proper performance of the control loops and interlocks based on established designs within the company or company approved changes.
- Provide input and review comments on instruments and valves based on lessons learnt from oil sands companies in Alberta
Qualifications & Experience
- Engineering degree or technical diploma in Chemical or Control Instrumentation and Preference will be given to those who ALSO have a Diploma in Industrial Instrumentation obtained in North America.
- 10 to 15 years of total experience, of which a minimum of 5 years includes relevant experience in instrumentation and SIS systems in a plant-operating environment, commissioning start-up.
- Good exposure to Utilities plants and experienced with C&I system and PLC equipment.
- Prior oilsands site experience is a must have.
- Working hands on experience on “InTools” operation .
- Ability to communicate in English (oral & written) in day-to-day conversation is a must.
