Role synopsis
• Working closely with IT&S Compliance team, the Information Technology and Services (IT&S) Compliance Solution Architect will provide design authority across the compliance agenda within Integrated Supply and Trading (IST)
• The role entails seeing compliance applications through to delivery as the technical and functional design authority working with the delivery team(s) and the business.
• The role will focus on the existing compliance application (such as IMEinstein, EJAM, and Trader Voice) and the Compliance Programme delivery stream (e.g. CATS, FaceTime) either overseeing embedded architects- and being accountable for the overall design- or as the architect responsible for the design itself.
• In addition, involvement in other non-compliance projects/programmes will be required to support the compliance aspects of those projects (e.g. YellowJacket, Trade Control Transformation - TCT, TT integration).
• The role requires an experienced solution architect with significant experience of selecting and implementing third party software and designing bespoke trading compliance (or comparable domain) applications and who has often worked on several projects at the same time.
• The role will also require a focus on managing the wider compliance estate in the medium to long term, to ensure [Company] trading business is able to respond to, and meet, the regulatory and compliance requirements facing it.
• The candidate will have significant experience across the vendor application and development spectrum, including vendor selection, development methodologies, application design, toolsets, data sourcing, system integration, change management, quality control, problem solving and resolution and leadership by example.
• The candidate will, ideally, have an in-depth knowledge of delivering compliance solutions within a trading organization (and, in particular, within an energy trading environment).
• This role has a strong outward facing bias and working relationships are required with a wide range of development and project teams, the IT&S Compliance Manager, IT&S Compliance Team, IST Compliance Function, business resources, and other technical architecture and infrastructure teams within IST IT&S.
Key accountabilities
• Will work closely with the IST IT&S Compliance Team to help deliver the compliance systems agenda in a pragmatic and strategic manner
• Will build strong working relationships with the IST IT&S Team, the IST Compliance function and the respective delivery teams
• Will work on developing the architecture relevant to the application modules or work packages into a design that can be delivered to the development team.
• Will maintain the balance between shorter term, ‘tactical’ solutions to meet immediate needs, and longer term ‘strategic’ initiatives.
• Will be the continuing design authority for specific application modules or development work packages
• Working with the development team, under the leadership of the project manager, will ensure all software artifacts are developed according to the architectural and design principles embodied in S&A standards and the relevant design documents.
• Will provide key insights into the application of technology to compliance specific problems. Examples would include the use of write once media for storage, IM monitoring, and desktop lockdown technologies.
• Understand how the solution is to meet its non-functional requirements and can provide sizing models and design advice to keep performance within limits.
• Provide fully informed technical advice to the development team.
• Will resolve day-to-day functional and technical design issues and ensure that design changes are approved and documented according to the project guidelines and relevant compliance requirements
• Ensure that obstacles to the development are appropriately addressed at various levels of the organization. Can recognize when an issue needs escalation for resolution.
• Constantly improve upon and promote technical and functional best practices
• Work in partnership with IT&S operations and infrastructure teams to ensure systems can be delivered operationally.
• Work with the other IT&S projects and programmes to ensure that their deliverables are consistent with the compliance agenda and are coordinated with the IT&S compliance delivery schedule
• Develop the Compliance IT&S roadmap and contribute to the IT&S strategy refresh on compliance
Essential criteria & qualifications
• Demonstrable experience as an architect, designer or technical specialist within an energy trader, regulatory organization, investment bank, or third party software vendor
• Demonstrable ability to ensure what is designed is delivered – such as being accountable for all or a major system component’s functional and technical design and implemented quality.
• Working knowledge of database design and database operation, scaling, and data migration.
• Working knowledge of enterprise-scale data warehousing.
• Demonstrable experience directing technical and functional staff
• Experience of a trading organisation and the compliance requirements this would be subject to.
• Broad based technical coverage of desktop and server infrastructure, active directory, IM and voice recording

Desirable criteria & qualifications
• Deep functional knowledge of compliance (ideally within an energy trading organisation), or energy trading, or comparable domain
• Experience of mass storage systems (e.g. Centera), retrieval and analysis software
• Experience of creating a strategy for compliance applications within a wider business and system context
• Knowledge of one of more of the packages implemented (or planned to be implemented) within IST’s compliance application estate (e.g. FaceTime IM auditor, Symantec Enterprise Vault, NAC appliances)
• Understanding of the regulatory environment currently facing a UK / US energy trading organisation.
• Experience in either a J2EE or .NET environment.
• Line management experience including performance reviews, appraisals, performance management
