Description:
Operations Engineers provide process technical support - troubleshooting, monitoring, and optimization to operations to achieve optimum unit performance while maintaining and complying with safety and environmental standards. This position interfaces with all departments throughout the refinery including operations, maintenance, and planning and tech services.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and analyze process unit operations.  Identify optimization opportunities, troubleshoot operational/quality problems.
  • Actively promote the latest technologies and problem-solving solutions.
  • Share and leverage technical expertise across other sites.
  • Lead the process engineer unit monitoring with the area, ensuring effective data collection, data analysis, conducting monthly review meetings, and prepare quarterly reports.
  • Continuously improve the unit monitoring within the area.
  • Generate ideas and scope for expense and capital projects.
  • Recommend and develop items for inclusion in expense or capital budgets to improve unit efficiency, safety, environmental compliance and quality of products.
  • Drive closure of open action items.
  • Direct unit optimization and opportunity (RBI) generation and execution efforts for area.
  • Participate as needed on teams associated with major project, business improvement, optimization, reliability, safety, turnaround, and environmental compliance activities.
  • Monitor the sharing and collecting of best practices through internal and external networking.
  • Lead periodic technical review meetings for the unit(s).
  • Participate in PHAs and LOPA reviews for projects and revalidation PHAs for assigned units.
  • Provide inspection assistance during turnarounds.
  • Ensure that owned PSI documentation is maintained.
  • Serve as a mentor and teacher to engineers with less experience
  • Serve as backup to Process Supervisors and the Business Team Lead.
 
Basic/Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular full-time basis without restrictions.
  • Fifteen plus years of direct experience in refining and/or the chemical industry.
  • Have or be able to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).
  • Able to work outdoors and occasionally climb ladders and towers and wear Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Ten plus years in Hydrocarbon processing technology and processing units.
  • Ten plus years in Sulfur processing technology and processing units.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
Strong oral/written communication skills and the ability to interact and work in a team environment.
Computer proficient including applications for word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
