Job Description:
[Company] is seeking high-quality librarians for research and information management positions described below. The positions are primarily based in the Houston, Texas metropolitan area.
General Criteria/Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Library or Information Science
Understanding of searching techniques and knowledge of database structures
Familiarity with tools for searching the scientific and technical literature, Internet search engines, and database services such as STN, LexisNexis, and DIALOG
Knowledge of basic reference sources (hardcopy and online)
Comfortable with conducting reference interviews with scientific and technical staff
Experience organizing and presenting information using a variety of desktop office tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Discretion and judgment to evaluate, select, classify, organize, and filter information content
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong commitment to superior customer service
Capability to handle a heavy workload and multi-task non-routine work requiring creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive thought processes
Ability to accomplish project work in a diverse team setting
Willingness to exchange knowledge and learn from team members
Preferred:
Subject background in engineering, earth / physical sciences or chemistry would be an asset
Duties may include:
Provide reference assistance from library collection and external sources to technical personnel
Support the company's research and operations staff through literature searching and other fit-for-purpose information retrieval activities
Catalog published materials using OCLC, AACR2 or RDA, FRBR, and other technical taxonomies to create MARC records for the online catalog
Index internal reports using technical taxonomies
Provide one-on-one and group customer education and tours, describing services, tools, and techniques for effective information retrieval
Define scope and steward special projects, such as investigating search tools or analyzing collection management software
Build knowledge and proficiency through practice and interactions with librarian mentors
