Desired Qualifications:
 
The Instrument Construction Technician supports the Construction Group’s Instrumentation Team by installing instrumentation and instrument loop components, such as pipe, fittings, tubing, valves and instruments.
 
The Instrument Technician will report to the Instrumentation Group Foreman.
 
The position is located on the North Slope and requires a rotational work schedule.
 
Essential Job Functions:
 
  • Installs instruments, stands, tubing, supports, IAS piping, actuators, fire systems and other I&C equipment. Leak test piping and tubing systems with water or N2.
  • Possesses some knowledge of instrumentation function and calibration.
  • Works with tubing and piping fittings from vacuum to high pressures to exceed 5,000 psi, and electrical circuits with potentials up to 50 volts. Uses various types of test equipment.
  • Reads, uses and updates electrical, electronic, piping and instrument drawings and schematics. Provides written and oral documentation of job status.
  • Routinely performs safety and productivity observations; shop, field and vehicle inspections; and   is required to attend various components of technical, developmental and safety training.
  • Must demonstrate support for the company’s environmental management system.
 
Knowledge, Skills, Ability
 
  • Ability to calibrate, test, troubleshoot and repair various devices and control loops as described in Essential Job Functions section, above.
  • Ability to work safely with various hand and power tools including metal cutting saws and grinders
  • Ability to work with tubing and piping fittings from vacuum to high pressures to exceed 5000 psi and electrical circuits with potentials up to 50 volts.
  • Ability to read, use and update electrical, electronic, piping and instrument drawings and schematics.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with others and alternate.
  • Must be a self-starter, be able to work independently with minimal supervision, and have the ability to use sound judgment in making decisions.
 
Physical Demands/Work Environment

The majority of the work requires going to the field or to a facility, where the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must be able to access all process areas of a petrochemical facility, including occasionally climbing scaffolding and ladders to access instrumentation.
 
The employee must be able to hear audible safety alarms and warnings.
 
The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers with sufficient dexterity to remove or install instrumentation components.
 
The employee’s vision must be adequate to perform the above listed tasks in a safe manner. Some job tasks require close vision capabilities.
 
The employee must display the ability to read and understand safety/warning signs, and must display sufficient oral communication skills to be able to give and receive oral safety warnings.
 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to severe arctic weather conditions.
 
The position will require a remote site rotational work schedule.
 
• Two (2) years of related technical / vocational training preferred.
 
• One (1) year working with remote North Slope operations preferred
