Description
Provide technical direction and leadership to Scaffold crew. Supervise and/or direct work, manage daily schedule, and visit job sites to oversee work activities. Ensure that procedures are established and followed, and that safe work standards are understood and practiced.
Essential Job Functions
- Supervise the construction, erection, maintenance and dismantling of scaffolding per OSHA and ADOSH specifications
- Serve as a technical authority to crew and management team with respect to Scaffold issues
- Oversee the use of multiple scaffold systems including construction grade lumber and patented pre-manufactured scaffold components
- Audit scaffolds and material for regulation compliance and accurate specifications
- Promote safe work practices and implement company and client safety policies/procedures for work crew, including proper hazard recognition and mitigation
- Provide direct supervision to crew leads; provide overall supervision and/or direction to crew
- Ensure all crew members have the required skills and abilities to perform job tasks safely and correctly
- Assign a mentor to new crew members and verify that mentoring process is followed and tracked
- Regularly communicate expectations to crew with respect to safety, work execution, procedures, efficiency and encourage open communication from team members
- Provide regular and timely feedback regarding performance
- Identify any needed corrective action for crewmembers, and assist in the delivery of such
- Make certain that all incidents are promptly reported
- Continually seek improvement in safety and work processes
- Attend and participate in planning meetings
- Measure work progress, efficiency and effectiveness using various programs, including but not limited to, Original Scope Impact (OSI) and Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
- Audit SETA cards for complete job hazard assessment and proper mitigation
- Perform regular shop, field and vehicle inspections
- Manage crew’s schedule including preparing Work Schedule Changes and resolving billeting issues
- Approve time and ensure any required approvals for holdovers or additional overtime are obtained
- Conduct weekly safety meeting for crew
- Develop and maintain an efficient and effective alternate relationship
- Positively promote a zero tolerance culture
Knowledge, Skills, Ability
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to listen to, motivate and develop others
- Strong communication skills, with proven ability to effectively interact with individuals at all levels of the organization, including the client, the management team, other work crews, and subordinates
- Knowledge of applicable technical and safety policies, procedures and standards
- Excellent organizational and planning skills
- Strong knowledge of scaffolding techniques and procedures
- Working knowledge of various fasteners, hardware, materials, and other commonly used scaffolding components
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications as they pertain to insulation or sheet metal
- Knowledge of crane and hand signals
- Familiar with OSHA and ADOSH scaffold specifications
- Must be well versed in operations and safety practices and policies
- Able to work comfortably at heights
- Ability to work effectively with little to no direct supervision
- Proficient computer skills, with ability to efficiently use Microsoft Office applications

FINE MOTOR SKILLS: Frequently required to use hands and fingers with sufficient dexterity to perform close, exacting and repetitive tasks.
HEARING: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms and warnings.
VISUAL ACUITY: Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Vision must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner.
LIFTING: The employee must regularly lift, pull and/or move up to 40 pounds,
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must display ability to read and understand job descriptions, safety/technical manuals and safety/warning signs. Must display sufficient oral communication skills to be able to give and receive oral safety warnings, instructions, and task assignments.
ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to severe arctic weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, confined spaces, and the risk of electrical shock. May require work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Three years scaffold experience preferred
• Three years supervisory experience preferred.
Basic Qualifications
- Three years related experience, preferably in petrochemical environment.
- Valid driver’s license required and ability to be insured by CH2MHILL’s auto insurer (*new applicants must provide a five year DMV record at the time of hire).
