Description
 
Performs craft level labor support for the BP CIC Inspection programs (CUI, CIP, CRM, Special, etc.) in accordance with all safety, environmental and operational practices and policies and procedures including various manual, unskilled, and/or skilled tasks as required for pipe stripping, lifting, scaffold erection, corrosion coating reconditioning, sheet metal fabrication, pipe line insulation, rigging, asbestos abatement, and new technology support.
 
This position is located on the North Slope and requires a rotational work schedule.
 
 
Essential Job Functions
 
General labor – According to project needs, manual labor may include operating small hand tools and power tools (buffer/grinders, sawzalls, drills, T-bar, rakes, shovels, etc.), and carrying and lifting materials (cribbing, chock blocks, straps, piping saddles) required for pipeline insulation stripping, shoveling snow, and other activities
 
Special Labor – May be required to work insulating, fabricating, and installing sheet metal using shop equipment; erecting scaffolding; rigging; and possibly operating a loader
 
Ability to work as a part of a team and follow work direction
 
Capable of learning various CH2MHILL, CIC/CUI and BP safety and operational procedures and demonstrating required competencies
 
Ability to operate vehicles (pickups, 12 foot flatbed F-550 trucks, 12 foot box van F-550 trucks) and other equipment (man lifts) in all seasons, adverse weather, and/or road conditions
 
Ability to tow small mobile trailers and equipment with vehicles for CIC field activities
 
Participate in JSA reviews, pre-job walk-downs, and safety SETA card preparations covering work activities and materials required by job
 
May be required to work with asbestos containing materials during which strict compliance with company procedures and regulatory requirements will be essential. This work may require the use of a respirator and other personal protective equipment
 
Knowledge, Skills, Ability
 
Must be a self-starter; able to work independently with minimal supervision
 
Must be willing and able to perform strenuous physical labor in harsh winter environment

MOBILITY: Employee frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. Must be physically able to access scaffolding and traverse locations between and around outside pipeline infrastructure.
 
FINE MOTOR SKILLS: Frequently required to use hands and fingers with sufficient dexterity to perform close, exacting and repetitive tasks.
 
HEARING: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms and warnings.
 
VISUAL ACUITY: Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Vision must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner
 
LIFTING: The employee must regularly lift, pull and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
 
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must display ability to read and understand job descriptions, safety/technical manuals, procedures, permits, JSA’s (Job Safety analysis) SETA cards (Safety-Environmental Task assessment), safety/warning signs and demonstrate competency either oral or written as required. Must display sufficient oral communication skills to be able to give and receive emergency instructions, oral safety warnings, instructions, and task assignments.
 
ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to severe arctic weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and confined spaces. May be required to work with asbestos containing materials.

Previous related experience preferred, such as construction, laborer, sheet metal, insulating, or scaffold work. North slope experience highly desirable

Basic Qualifications
 
Valid driver’s license required and ability to be insured by CH2MHILL’s auto insurer. (*new applicants must provide a five year DMV record at the time of hire)
Must be eligible for certification as an asbestos worker/supervisor under Alaska Department of Labor & Workforce Development rules
