Reporting to the plant manager, the incumbent leads the plant production control function and production control process improvements; ensures that production plans and schedules are created, maintained, and executed;  works proactively with other functions including internal customers to ensure that resources are available and optimized for flawless production schedule execution; works proactively with other functions including internal customers to improve safety, quality, On Time Delivery (OTD) and to reduce cycle time, inventory, and costs through lean manufacturing implementation.
 
Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a production control team with a primary goal for improving OTD, inventory, and cycle time
  • Lead and develop a production control support team to ensure that all production related clerical work is complete effectively and efficiently
  • Ensure that the master production plan is maintained and production schedules are created, maintained, and communicated to all affected plant functions
  • Improve level loading and minimize abrupt changes to production schedules by working proactively with both internal and external customers to improve planning and scheduling processes
  • Ensure that production schedules are executed flawlessly by ensuring that all necessary resources are in place including material, people, equipment, and processes
  • Create production recovery action plans in response to schedule changes caused by Non-Conformance Reports (NCR), Engineering Change Notices (ECN), material shortages or backlogs, and downtimes etc.
  • Assist in establishing manufacturing plans including process routings, travel documents, and manufacturing costs for New Product Introduction (NPI) and customized products
  • Report weekly on production schedule execution performance including both OTD and cycle time
  • Analyze cost variances and identify opportunities to reduce standard process times, standard costs, rework, and scrap costs
  • Drive subcontractor cycle time improvement by working closely with other plant function
  • Perform the regular duties as a production controller including but not limited to receiving Purchase Orders (PO) in the system, creating schedules, opening, issuing, tracking, and closing work orders,  and reviewing cost variances
 
Qualifications
 
  • B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering or B.Comm. in Operations Management. Equivalencies would be considered.
  • Five or more years of production control or supply chain management experience including planning, scheduling, and inventory management,  preferably in a machining and assembly environment
  • Working knowledge of J.D. Edwards or similar systems
  • Proficient in Excel, Access and/or other databases
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing finance
  • Effective communication, organizational, planning, problem solving skills
  • Lean manufacturing experience preferred
  • CPIM preferred
