THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Exploitation Specialist will develop and execute a long-term growth strategy for Canadian Natural's primary heavy oil assets that maximizes value for the company and its shareholders. As a newly approved position, the Exploitation Specialist will review worldwide research in enhanced oil recovery to identify new ways for Canadian Natural to exploit our known assets, recommend a plan for developing assets based on economics and chance of success, and help develop and implement pilot projects.

The Exploitation Specialist reports to the Exploitation Manager, Heavy Oil. The successful candidate will take the lead in a multidisciplinary team environment to further develop Canadian Natural’s primary heavy oil follow-up EOR processes and will:
• Recommend business direction for Canadian Natural’s heavy oil post primary production.
• Lead in the development of plans and strategies for post primary EOR production
• Evaluate existing heavy oil pools for secondary and tertiary oil recovery operations
• Lead investigations and studies: published research, simulation, laboratory studies, and field pilots
• Develop project justifications for senior management approval
• Help prepare regulatory applications
• Review and guide development plans and project justifications to ensure that best practices are followed
• Calculate, maintain, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of corporate reserves as they pertain to EOR
• Perform other duties as required

HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?
• Develop a long-term growth plan for post primary production in CNRL’s primary heavy oil assets
• Act as leader in building an effective business plan and process to realize the long term growth plan
• Promote innovation by leading investigations and field studies for enhanced exploitation
• Identify specific projects and develop implementation plans to pilot and commercialize post primary EOR

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Typically 15+ years of experience in exploitation and reservoir engineering with B.Sc. or advanced degree in Engineering (preferably with a strong petroleum bias) and APEGA professional status
• A strong work ethic, and excellent communication, organizational, and team leadership skills are required
• Must be prepared to take on a challenge and have fun doing it
• Candidates with exposure to field operations will be preferred
• Strong understanding of:
   o Primary heavy oil, EOR and economic evaluations
   o Laboratory studies, simulation and piloting
   o Common Microsoft and oil industry software applications
